Long term idea: Parade
This last weekend my wife and I had a nice weekend in our favorite NW town, Port Townsend. We saw the Rhododendron Festival Parade on Saturday. It's a great home town type parade, but also draws in marching bands and such from around the state and as far away as CA. As far as I could tell looking at the entry forms online, just about any group can get into the parade. (I actually looked into it a few months ago, but figured we weren't quite there yet as a group)
Four car groups were in the parade this year (aside from of course the classic cars or rare vehicles used to transport marshalls, politicians, etc). One was a Puget Sound area off-road club, they had 5 or 6 muddy jeeps and pickups with the big tires, etc. Then there was a NW classic car club, about 10 cars, mostly 55-57 Chevys, a few 60's Mustangs, and one 60-something Stingray Convertible that pleased the crowd with random burnouts and smoke shows. There was also an all-Corvette club from Tacoma area I believe, Classic Glass or something like that? They had about 10 vettes, the full range of models up to the current body style. The other single-marquee club was Mustangs. Like the vettes, they had the full range thing going, including some less-than-pristine 80's models and a couple 6 cylinder 90's to current models. Cars that wouldn't get a second glance driving on the street, but I'll admit seeing them in a chronological timeline was kinda cool. And finishing the line with a black '01 Cobra convertible complete with the roll bar made up for it. Anyway, I figure folks wouldn't mind too much seeing a line up SVXes next year, at this or any of the other smaller parades around the area. Most people have never seen a group of these unique cars together, it would be pretty mind blowing. Not to mention, it would be a great meet for us, it's a great little town to hang out in, lots of nice old hotels and restaurants, etc. Anyway, sorry for the long story, just something to keep in mind for the future. One of the goals of this new club Randy and some of the guys are working on behind the scenes is to get more exposure for the SVX and let everyone know we're out there. This is a good way to do it and too have some fun!

Good idea, Troy. Of course, another idea is your community car shows. I almost entered one that was being sponsored by the Drama club at a local high school, but, was already committed to other plans. I missed the Bar-B-Q festival car show this year, and was going to enter it. The community college in Owensboro also has a car show each year. Perhaps I'll be able to enter it. Of course, I'm planning on Autofest in September. I'm looking forward to being parked with the DeLoreans this year. Meanwhile, enter a local sports car club, just for the newsletter if for nothing else. That is, until we can get the Formal club in full gear and start sprouting out into Regional groups. You're doing a great job of building the Northwest Region as we speak. Keep up the good work.

Yep, car shows is a great idea too! They can be a bit tricky around here, as they are either strictly "classics" (nothing newer than '72 or so) or for lack of a better term, "Rice Boy shows". But the last couple years in August there is a really big Subaru show here. They even have a SVX class with two awards (best in class and best mods). I think the first year only 2 SVXes were there (and one got both trophies ) but last year they had 4 or 5, thanks in part to this board I believe. I wasn't there, (honeymoon), but I think Balser took home one of the SVX awards.
I'll have to do some research, I'm sure there's a few shows we'd fit into. Thanks for the reminder Randy!

The show in August sounds good. Lets keep an eye on that one. That one could grow as we grow in the NW. Let us know when and where.

Steve and I just went to a local parade and were thinking the same thing- wouldn't it be sweet to see a line of SVXes in this parade? I'm going to check into what their requirements are but I think they're pretty lax. Might be a good 'starter' parade.
Its the third weekend in May every year. What do you think? Dee |

How about an SVX parade at the 10th Anniv. Meet. Any SVXers, \from the Lafayette Indiana area Bill, Pat, etc.) should call their local tourist bureau to set it up.
Larry III PS: Just imagine a parade of about 150+ SVXes lead by someone driving a bright YELLOW SVX while dressed only in zebra striped bikini briefs. Maybe I should bring my tuxedo for this event. |

Dee
There is going to be a meet in Lafayette, Indiana, July 20 - 22, 2002. This is a 10th anniversary meet which celebrates 10 years of the SVX. 1992 being the official first year of the SVX. You can find out more about this meet by going to the main forum page, and going to the meets section, and looking for the 10th Anniversary Meet thread. If you have more questions, let me know.
