Gas Solution

Im even more motivated to build my ALCOHOL FUEL STILL and tell every large oil corporation to kiss my a$$. By the way BUSH has his hands in almost every oil company in some way either foreign or domestic. Alcohol is clean burning and you get a tax break from the govt. if you do the paperwork. I plan on getting most of my materials from the local dump for free and modifying all my cars to run on it. By the way 190 proof alky is around 110 octane and cost about $0.20-$0.50 a gallon to make.

Hahaha!!!!!!

It is pretty sad if you think that "Bush does not set the oil prices it is the Islamo-fascist countries that hate America" is the second most uninformed quote!

When you consider how petroleum cost affects almost every facet of our economy, I'll bet you'd be surprised how much of one's income is spent on fuel. Everything on every store shelf was hauled there by truck, so we're indirectly paying for fuel with every retail purchase we make.

And pity the poor folks who rely on home heating oil.

demonsvx, I'm with you on that still, but your cost estimates seem mighty optimistic.

There are currently 45 boutique fuel variations used throughout the continental US. The refinery changeover costs amount to 20% - 40% of your gas cost.

The best way to lower gas prices is to call your congressman and tell them to support H.R.1493.IH.
There is no need for 45 different fuels. The EPA needs to lower the amount of custom fuels to something more realistic.

For instance in SE Wisconsin, if we run low on our blend, our filling stations can't get additional fuel from the rest of WI or from IL because of the regulations in place by the EPA. When supply is low and demand goes up, so do prices. The refinery switches to produce our gas, then the IL Blend runs low and their prices go up, etc.

your prices seem a bit low, and with alchy you have twice as much fuel to air ratio, so you really have to double whatever cost, and halve your cars "range'

Well, i'm probably not a good example.. but i spend about 50$ a week in gas, and earn about 400$ a week.. plus the fuel costs that are incorperated into everything we buy (like dcarrb stated)... i'd say possibly as much as a quarter of my income goes to the oil industry.

To make it even more depressing, 72 cents out of every dollar you earn goes into taxes.

Your fuel has to be shipped by rail or truck (fuel taxes), the gas company has to pay corporate income taxes, has to pay matching taxes, unemployment taxes, property taxes, utility taxes, Telecommunication taxes, and a few others. That cost of doing business gets added onto the price you pay for gas. Plus then your federal, state, and even in some places, local governments add their own gas taxes.

Think about that for everything you buy. Food, housing expenses, phone, cable, Internet access all priced to include the company's cost of taxes.

Some time in May is the current Income tax day, I can't remember, but the real tax day (The day that everything you made so far during the year is handed over to the government and the beginning of you keeping your own money for the rest of the year) is in Late September

Isn't Jet Fuel low octane? Closer to Kerosene than Gasoline?

DemonSVX- are you making Ethanol or Methanol? I'll be needing to make some methanol if I can for under $1 a gallon, I'll need it to produce the Biodiesel for the truck I plan to get in the near future...
