BEST TIRES? for SVX?.....ALL SEASON

Please let me know what you think are the best all season tires for the SVX. I have Dayle's drop spring (1" front, 1/2" rear) and Koni insert package (love it!, BTW).

A while ago someone said the Hankook (??model) 245x40x16 tires were the best! I do tend to like the slightly oversized tire idea, if it will clear (and no other problems)!

Please share your preferences, I suddenly need tires SOON.*
THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT!

P.S. MY rear tires are severely bald on inside edges only. Is that camber? I just (4 months ago) had 4 way alignment at very reputable brake/alignment shop!

I've heard that the Continental ContiExtremeContact is very quiet and has very good performance. Should work excellent in rain/snow. Another tire I've heard good things about is the Toyo Proxes 4 all season UHP tire. Only negative I've heard about this tire is that most people think it would have marginal performance in the snow (compared to other ASUHP tires).

Worn edges could be caused by out of spec camber or by out of spec toe. Did you install camber adjustment bolts in the rear? IMHO, "reputable shop" is almost meaningless these days. Did they give you a print out of the final alignment values? If not, you should go back there and get it. Proper specs for the rear are +/- 0.125" of toe (with 0 inches being preferable) and around -0.6 to -1.2 deg of camber (with -1 deg being a reasonable comprimise between performance, and non-uniform tire wear).

For the money, Sumitomo HTZ+ all season tires are hard to beat. They run just $59 at the TireRack, are W speed rated and perform well in the snow...

Here's a link to the five most common tire choices for the SVX at the Tirerack: Tires - Best Sellers

I will go with my Ventus VE105s....Stick to the road something fierce and the way I drive, that deserves a trophy, i can get them to break loose and scream but its a very controlled feeling, no "Oh ****" slides into objects, just pure road hugging love, havent had them for winter yet, but after looking at the tread pattern i think they will do really well.....at 109 a tire for stock rims, I cant argue either....

TIRES

I have Sumitomo HTR+ all weather tires, Z rated for around $85. They are for 17x8 wheels so i think it was a good deal. They wear very slow which was a strong incentive to buy. The only complaint i have is over 75 0r 80 mph on the interstate i get more of a vibration than i would like. I'm guessing its the tires but i could be wrong. Overall, they rate high in every category. Check tire ratings on the tirerack to get a better perspective. I had bridgestones twice. The original v-rated tires were great but were not available when i needed new tires. The Z-rated ones wore unevenly and didn't last 13,000 miles and were expensive.
Good Luck.

Mike

I've got the same tires on 17" rims. Grip is good on wet/dry/snow, but the tires are incredibly loud compared to the Dunlop Sport SP5000 tires that were on the car previously. No vibration at speeds up to 125 mph.

The Continental ContiExtremeContact is great in the snow and rain and quite and nicely priced. With those great qualities something has to go and that would be the dry traction. So if you don't want to win at auto-X it's a good all year round tire IMHO. Then again maybe auto-X could be run in the rain or snow. The SVX would kick some a$$ then.

There are around 5 sets of Continental ContiExtremeContacts out here in Washington. They are a very good tire for the money ($114.00 ea) and are very quiet.

I have the continentals

I wouldn't recommend them. I think they suck. They are terribly loud, the dry traction isn't so great and no matter how many times i get them balanced they feel like they are off. I paid $89/each for them and i can't wait to get rid of them. I had the Pirelli 7000 supersports and the Yokohama decibels. Both were good tires but I prefer the decibels. Nice smooth quiet ride.
I would just stay away from the Continental extreme contacts though.

I run the Continental ContiExtremeContacts when I don't have my summer wheels on my car and there great. They do feel off balanced for the first mile or so after letting the car sit over night, but after that there fine. There diffently better the the sp5000 I had before.

Several members as well as myself have noticed the same thing about the tires bumping a little when you first start out. I have not driven real aggressive with them, but I really like them. They are great in the rain and snow. I still think they are very quiet.
