i know this has been discussed before but i just wanted a quick answer can i run 17x7 1/2 with 42 mm offset

They should fit but keep in mind that your new tires will be sticking out an extra 1/2" or so. If you don't have that much clearance now then I'd stay away. An alternative is to run a slightly narrower tire like 215's.

As Earthworm said, it should just barely clear. It might even rub slightly when the suspension is compressed.

That shouldn't rub then. A thing to not is those tires are only 23.46" tall where stock is 24.86" Your speedo will read slow by about 6%.
