tic tic tap tap or thunk thunk
ok, now I feel a little paranoid or just plain stumped. In all probabability my tic tic sound, which really sounds like an ol ford rod bearing going out " but muffled" could be the flex plate, could be some part of the whirling tourqe converter set up, or in reality could be a bearing of rod or crank nature... problem is it runs smooth and strong and knocks "tics" louder when hot. As an older teenager (decades) and usually one heck of a mechanic I really dont know why this tic tic or soft clunk clunk has been there for 15k miles. Anybody out there know what I mean?

Really depends upon whether it's a knock or a tick, but my guess is, that's nothing more than the distinctive sound of a timeworn Subaru valvetrain.
