Looking at those photos, the rear end is messed up pretty good. NikFu has a '92 LS-L which would not have the highest book value. The fix alone would cost more than the value of his car...

On the plus side NikFu, once your car is totalled you could buy it back as a parts car and go on a car hunting trip in WA state!

I was thinking that about the airbags. They didn't deploy because it was a rear impact. The front didn't do more than warp the liscense plate thing and shatter the cover.

Total loss> The cars value to me is worth more than any repair cost. Damn them to hell I swear I will fix that piece of ****,

but probably not before I get a new transmission, because I just started losing first gear today, which fills me up with many emotions I'd rather not express in public.
I planned on installing the cooler this weekend, too.

On the plus side, I did sit in a spankin' new 2005 Legacy when I went lookin for the Outback (turboed ofcourse) and I am in pseudo-love.
Those things are elegant monstrers. I literally felt small next to them.

We are thinking the clutch packs are wore out?
Something like that.
It pops into reverse and rolls hard, but when it's in drive, you have to take it to 2k to get moving.
Pop it in "1" and it shifts into reverse and lurches back a bit, hit the gas and it slides forward very slowly.

Mine engages at idle, and it even pulls a bit, it just wont go into any other gear than second.
Driving in second everywhere kinda sucks.

Actually I don't know what gear it is.
I'm pulling 2250 revs at 45mph. 3rd?

Salvage cars are my business. I deal with wrecked cars all day every day, and am currently parting 8 svx's, most of which have less damage than that. All of them were purchased at auction from insurance companies who totaled them.

Nik, I'm real sorry to hear about and see the pics of your car. I wish you the best of luck in getting it repaired. It amazes me how, with all the insurance there is today, that someone can ruin your car and you are left to suffer with a possible total or get no compensation for all the inconvenience caused by repair times and not having a cause. What a racket!.

Mike, PM me with a price on a rear wing that does not need repainting from one of those cars you are parting out. I am thinking of getting one for mine and need to have an estimate on what it will run me. Thanks!

Johnny (My SVX goes into the shop next week for body repairs)

Agreed.

New trunk: $1,052
r/bumper cover: $400
quarter panel extensions:$250
might also need l/quarter panel: $400

total: $2,102

Now add labor, prep, paint........!

Even with used parts the labor and paint will put you into the "totaled" catagory. But at least you can buy it back from the insurance company for cheap money!

If that's the case, and I don't get compensated, I'm just going to say screw it and pretend nothing ever happened, and keep my "buy back" money to use towards repairs. =/

Or will just write me a check? I don't know jack about this wrecking/crashing/insurance stuff.

hey, I just got my SVX back form my wreck about a week ago, DONT let them total it, they will SCREW you over, They totalled mine, and only gave me 4,000 plus the car. First thing you need to do is contact your local Subaru Dealership and get the Fair Market Retail Value on your SVX, if it was in excellent condition, a 92 LS-L values for over 6,250. Make sure that you give them hard facts and Wrtten Statements by the dealership. Me and my dad did not know of this at the time, so we were not able to get the full value of the car. PM me if you need any help, since I just got done with the BS, I've learned a few things....

The problem is that insurance companies have their own way of determining value. It may or may not coincide with the Kelley Blue Book Value, which a lot of people argue is not all that accurate anyway.

You also have to realize that they won't give you dealership value, they'll give you trade in value or private party value which is always lower. Let's face it, very few people drive around in cars that are mechanicaly and visually in perfect shape AND have low mileage.....so to expect top dollar for a "less than perfect" car with 6 digits on the odometer is wishful thinking.

I think $4,000 for a 92 with more than 100K is more than fair! Take a look on Ebay and see how many SVX's sell for less than that....there are a lot of them. Some are even newer and have less mileage. The sad fact is that there really isn't a good market for SVX's, so unless your car has less than 100K and is in GREAT shape, you won't get much for it.
