Dash Lights

Some of my dash lights have seemed to quit working, so I thought I'd take an informal survey to see what dash lights actually have the pale green backlighting before I tear the dash apart to attempt a fix.

In the 'CRUISE'/'FOG LITES'/'SECURITY' cluster- only my 'FOG LITES' switch is backlit.

In the 'HEATED MIRROR'/'PARKING LITES' cluster- only my "PARKING LITES' switch is backlit.

In the 'REAR DEFROSTER'/'4-WAY FLASHER' cluster- nothing is backlit.

In the dash-mounted 'PRND321' indicator- all positions light up EXCEPT the 'D'.

Gentlemen (and ladies)- what bulbs need replacing? (What's lit on your dash that ain't lit on mine?)

Thanks for your help!!

-Mark

Every one of them is supposed to light up. There is a recent thread on what kind of bulbs goes into which.

Also, to do the PDR123 in the dash, go to the link under my signature and click on how-to.

My 'D' didn't light up for about 2 months. Then all the sudden it started working again. Loose connection I guess. Very strange though.

I am also missing many lights.

On my tunnel console the gear selectors all light up but the "N" is brighter than all the others. Is that normal?

That one I can answer, because I just had the console apart- there is just one bulb that illuminates the entire console. You've probably got a bulb that's not positioned correctly in the holder.

on my actual shifter, the backlight doesn't work period.. none of the button's dash lights work besides the fog lights, plus my door's sensor is broken so there's no interior lights either because if i had the bulb in, it'd look like a disco. oh, and the buttons for the maplights and stuff also aren't backlit.

the "D" on the dash of mine also stopped lighting up for a few months and the began working again. maybe it was some kind of virus going around.

i still don't understand the tape player, or specifically why there is no light telling me which track is playing. is there supposed to be one or is it some subaru kind of jest?

this is supposed to light up but it fails on a lot of the units. It's a selling feature when you have one that the light works. So don't feel lonely.

Looking at Subaruparts.com trying to figure out which replacement bulb is which for the cruise/fog/security. 'Security' shouldn't be needing replacement.

http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=830-1

Please correct me if I'm wrong:

Subaru Bulb Replacement: 83426PA020

Subaru Bulb Replacement: 83426PA030

These diagrams are quite difficult to read!

Are these factory bulbs identical??

I will agree with you on that one - they are hard to figure out!

I did figure that 020 and 030 are different.

There are three bulbs that they show.

1) 83426PA010 $4.53 ea (2) total
2) 83426PA020 $1.49 ea (6) total
3) 83426PA030 $4.53 ea (4) total

I don't know the difference between 010 and 030 though.

If I ever get this figured out, I will post a list on the how to locker of all of the lights and numbers. This is about to make me go mad. Maybe Lwin can give us the equivalent numbers for Radio Shack.

I can see where the 83426PA020 and the 83426PA030 go. Has anyone had this panel apart to verify that the bulbs are different? Pics are good too!

The switch panels pop out and the lamps screw into the top of each switch. The only difference I can see is that the 030 is probably for the emergency flasher and comes with a red rubber sheath covering the bulb??? Other than that and the color of the plastic base (which really ends up at the TOP of the switch) I don't think there is a difference.

Now, can someone tell me how to get the cover off of the lamps at the roofline for the map lights? I really dont want to screw that up when I attempt to change those illuminating switch lamps.

Nope, Unlike the REAL world...you must reuse them or just go without. I opted to go without and have seen no problems as yet.

The boots have to be purchased for a different vendor. Dealer does not carry them. If you use them without the boots, it will be brighter since the plastic already has green tint as well.
