air freshener

Someone here bought an air freshener but haven't fitted it yet.

There is one on a wreckers car here in Hamilton.
He wants a fortune for it because he thinks all the interior has to come out to retrieve the wiring from under the seats etc.

Can anyone who has pulled one of these before shed some light on this ?

I was hopeful that it would just plug into the loom at the back and away we go.

cheers
Shane

PS = parts car collection +1
I bought Ian's last car.
Cost an extra $1200 for the gearbox in my ute I destroyed bringing it home.
Bummer.

Smile Re: air freshener

Hi shane,

I asked the questions to the trademe seller - I also told them what they needed to do to get it out without damaging it, I have taken 2 of these out from SVXs now (1 is in my car that you saw at Rotorua from Ians car) - but the price they want is out of this world - I had not spent more than NZ$100 for the whole thing.

Basically what is required is the same as if you need to remove the rear speakers.

eg remove front seats + back seats + passengers side rear panel (timing module is located here) + rear parcel shelf + carpet + wiring loom plastic cover on the floor + bezel near shifter in order to get switch out & remove ground terminal.

Only takes about 2 hours to do + 2 hours to put back (if required).

Check out the "how to" link on my write-up.....

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=54384

I was thinking about buying it - but not at that price, also they would not allow me to show them how to remove it - due to OSH rules .... not much good if they damage it before you receive it....

Steve

Which part are you after ?
An American bought one from Japan, but it arrived with no wiring, so he's trying to buy the wiring only from the Hamilton wrecker who wanted $350 for the whole unit.
He might split it up

Re: air freshener

Shane,

I actually do not need the unit - more or less just interested in what price he was asking, by the time you get to the wiring you may as well get the whole lot out (including the timer module in the rear LH side window area) - then on-sell it to one of our US cousins !!.

I actually have a spare complete unit sitting in a box - ready for the day I buy my second SVX !!!.

If you want, I can take pictures of the boxed one ? then post it here (or add to the "how to" doc area).

This will not happen for a couple of weeks. as we are off to melbourne on Saturday for 2 weeks, doing some of the Great Ocean Road & then going to the F1 GP in Melbourne.

Re: air freshener

I hope you've got good seats for the F1. I went to that a few years ago, bought a cheap ticket and ended up standing by the track, could only see about 100m of track. Very loud (unbelievably loud) and not that exciting. I can imagine that when watched from a high seat where you can see most of the track it would be much more exciting. Take some air muffs.

Shane,

we bought 4 day pass for around AUS$400 each.

each day we are in a different stand, our tickets vary from row 3 / 5 / 11 / 15 so we will be able to get "cosy" with the passing cars!!!
