Keyfob, three short "beeps"

Does anyone know what it means when you press the button on the electric key fob and it gives you three short and quiet beeps instead of the usual two beeps or one beep when you go to unlock/lock the door?

Battery dying in car? Battery dying in key fob? Door ajar?

Is your security button depressed? When it is not depressed it makes short quieter beeps but I believe it is 4 beeps whether you are locking or unlocking.

I think it means theres a door/hood/trunk not fully closed, or one of the switches is acting up on one of them. Like Nate said....if you dont have the security button pressed it should beep 4 times to let you know the doors are just locking and the alarm is not set.

The keyfob is supposed to beep? Weird... All I get is the blinking head/taillights. No beeping from anywhere.

If Security switch is on (Flashing switch light when car is off);
-One beep-doors locked/system armed
-Two beeps-doors unlocked/system unarmed

If Switch is off;
-Three quick beeps for lock or unlock

Ah.. The button is the culprit I bet! I was messing with them a while ago and guess I turned it off!

The battery is probably dying. My key fob did the usual one beep for lock two beeps for unlock. Then one day it started doing the three beeps for both locking and unlocking. Within a month or so the keyfob died. I replaced the battery and now it's back to one beep for lock and two beeps for unlock. Try replacing the battery. Radioshack battery 23-279 they come in a package of 2.

To be clear, the car horn sounds, not the remote. And I'm pretty sure the alarm unarmed lock/unlock mode (on mine anyway) is 4 quick beeps.

Hold the remote under your chin to double or triple the range.

It was four beeps. I didn't hear it at first and yes it's from the car. It was the button on the dash that I was messing with and turned it off. It's back on now and all is normal again! Thanks again!

It won't beep extra if your battery in your keyfod is dying. What is occuring is that you are pressing it longer (due to the battery failing), and thus repeatedly transmitting the signal in the hopes of the car picking it up. Well, the security module is getting the repeated signal and thinks you are trying to activate the panic feature so it beeps multiple times as a warning of what you are doing.

1 beep - lock
2 beeps - unlock
3 or 4 rapid beeps - you disarmed your security alarm (check button)
and I'll add:
2 rapid beeps + 2 rapid beeps + 2 rapid beeps, etc - STOP pressing cause you are about to trigger PANIC mode. If you trigger it, your alarm will go off and you'll need to press and hold the button until it shuts off.. single presses are not enough to stop it.

you sure your alarm is activated or that you even have the stock alarm? If you have an aftermarket alarm and they were geniuses, like whoever put the aftermarket on mine, they left the stock alarm alone (just turned it off and spliced in their system - which I have since ripped out of my car)

if you're stock, yours will be the same as the rest of us.. so I'd check the security button.

from the owners manual, if there are three beeps upon disarming, someone has messed with your car, either doors or trunk or ignition, the security light will flash a code indicating which sensor, I remember reading this there are more details I just can't remember all of them............G
