One of mine was really rusted and has been off for months with no problem, So tomorrow I guess I'll take the other one off too. I like the drill holes idea, I might do that when I come across a good set of dust shields.

Drilling holes won't allow air flow past the disk in the quantity that you need to do the job. Just take them off its better.
