My DSM build

Well, after reading my initial dsm thread, I decided that since I have completely changed my goals, and have actually started work, I'd start a new thread.
After removing the motor and trans, I found that the original 7 bolt motor is in great shape. i'm probably going to do a little cleanup on the head, bolt it all back together, and put it back in. when i crankwalk, or blow it up, i'll get a 6 bolt (no reason to not use a perfectly good engine)
I'm going to use AGPs new 60 trim
walbro 255 fuel pump
cheaper 660 or 720 injectors
adjustable fuel pressure regulator
DSMLink to control everything
Zeitronix wideband, egt and boost gauges (loggable hehe)
Ported exhaust manifold
HOPEFully an 02 eliminator downpipe (if not, just port out my stock 02 housing, and get a regular downpipe)
catback will hopefully be made by myself, using mandrel bends and probably a magnaflow muffler
all the intake piping is going to be done by me with mandrel bends
Intercooler is going to be a cheap (read not spearco) bar and plate design
hacked 1g mas for now, depending on funds get a GM MafT setup later

I've got a lot of work ahead of me , however after all is said and done, I should be easily in the 350+ all wheel horspower range, and with the 6 bolt and forged internals, i could put down a nice 450 or so. basically... It'll be a damn good time

I've almost convinced myself that this will become a full road racing car, and will have a rollcage, full good coilover setup, big brake kit, and racing seats. these, and the money to buy these, will come at a later date. (the stock brakes and suspension are going to get a booster when i start making power, its just not in the "budget" yet...)

I'll be updating this thread with pictures and coarse language as i progress. (i have some engine pics that i'll post sometime tonight or tomorrow)

Good to hear that the engine is in good shape. Have fun when it blows up!

Sounds like you are making some good progress.

I wish you luck. Any special paint to follow all the internal work?

If i blow it up, I'm sure it will be spectacular, and at least 25 lbs of boost

Haha, no paint, I may touch up a couple tiny spots of rust, but its a red car, and red is really hard to match. basically, i want to make this car a 450hp car that can run 11 second quartermiles, and run with any porsche in the twisties, and stop on a dime, that you wouldn't ever expect by seeing it drive by.

Check out my locker for the 3 motor pics. The head gasket was bad on the motor, and it was burning oil and coolant. I'll be replacing that, along with most of the other gaskets. I'm going to do a compression test and then a leak down test after i get new head bolts and see if any of the rings are bad. If they are, i may just install cheap aftermarket pistons and rings.
Oh yeah, and if you have a 56k modem... try opening the pictures, and then mowing the lawn or something... when you come back they might be loaded. (sorry, i compressed them, however they're still large)

Yikes. Looks like that head gasket was leaking in a few places. 2nd cyl from left in pic - is there oil in there? Doesn't look too bad for a bajillion miles. Compression and leakdown will tell you a lot. How do the plugs look?

Looks good Greg! That should be a real nice turbo. Are you going to stroke the motor at all? 2.3 and a 60 trim would be leathal!

My dad had basically JUST changed the plugs about 3 months ago (maybe put about 60 miles on the car in those 3 months... if that. Unfortunatly he threw out the old ones. that is coolant in the cylinder. and yeah, that headgasket was done.

I MAY get a stroker on the 6bolt, however more than likely I'll be poor then too. i'm toying with a nitrous idea however that won't come until way down the road.
