Well thats what i thought as well Tom. My CE light has flashed veryyyy quickly maybe twice in the past 8 months. A couple of days apart too. Ive never gotten a constant check engine light. But i get crappy mileage...dunno the reason why. Just thought new sensors would help. Could they be bad even if the light doesnt come on?

I'm not sure, but on my 92 I usually heve the Select Moniter hooked up all the time, and whenever I over richen the mixture, say cranking the FPR up to 60 psi or so the light comes on, the Select Moniter says bad O2 sensor. Then I dial down the pressure and clear the code, and the light does not come back on.
With that bad of gas milage you should not be getting the performance that you should. Can you compare it to another svx in your neighborhood?
Maybe you have a restricted exhaust system?

I just had a thought. Jack up your car, use jackstands, with it in the air, in neutral, and see how hard it is to turn the wheels. They should turn fairly easily, if not you might have a sticking caliper. While you are there it can't hurt to check the tire pressures.
I just recently checked my Dads Outback, the left front was hanging up (the pin that the caliper slides on was stuck) and he got about 4 more mpg on his trip home. He checks it every fillup. Tom

Well my exhaust sounds crappy so i dont know if i have any leaks or anything. The mechanic said everything was good about 3 months ago when i saw him last. tire pressure is always at 32 or 31 PSI..i may have bad valve stems because the pressure is always at 31 instead of 33. I think im gonna see if any codes pop up. Ill get back to you all about it.

If your valve stems were bad the pressure would be 31, 30, 29, 28, 27...

R u saying it would be lower every day? or are those the pressurs that it would be if it was bad? Mine is always at 31 for some reason.

If your valve stem(s) were leaking, it seems unlikely that the pressure would level-off and hold at 31psi.

Not true. I've seen many a tire/wheel assembly with leaks somewhere that hold at a certain pressure but leak above it. The only (cheap and clean) way to check is to overinflate the tire and dunk it under some water. You should then be able to trace where the bubbles are coming from.

Brakes dragging?

It could not hurt to check.

Make sure you let us know if replacing the O2 sensors improves your gas mileage and by how much. (I also have the low gas mileage symptom). Thanks.

Ok then, looks like im in the market for new O2 sensors. I went to www.oxygensensors.com and saw a sensor made by walker ( OEM type) going for $69.50. So that means about $140 for 2. What do you all think? I'll do anything to improve my gas mileage...i get like 12 MPG now...its like driving a bentley...crappy mileage and turns heads.

you could have a number of things that are not so hot. first off replacing the o2 sensors is a great idea to get gas performance back. Also replace or clean depending on what airfilter you have. Change the spark plugs. I would also recommend getting new high flow cats put on. If youir cats are original or over 50k miles old they probably are clogged and not doing there job anyway.

not going to hurt gas mileage usually but have you ever changed the fuel filter? that sometimes helps overall performance. IF your gas mileage is down to that low I would say its time to do some up keep on the car. Not saying you have neglecticed it, but generally 12pg is a car screaming for some attention.

I totally agree with you on what you said and i plan on doing all of those things in due time . I work at a small store and make about 150 bucks a week...ima 19 yr old college student so im just getting by. But all the things you mentioned are things i plan on fixing or replacing. Cleaning the throttle body and checking plugs is first in my list. The previous owner had a 1998 porsche 911 and an 02' boxster and the SVX was his daily driver. It was kept up well and i keep it very well and maintained but there are some this that could use some replacing just like any 11 yr old car.
