I go back in and ask if I can get a jump. the guy walks out and I point to the car. he asks "is that a Maxima?" . "No, It's a legacy turbo." I reply. he comes back with "Those come turbocharged?"

I took a moment to school him on subarus a little. He thought "that rally stuff" sounded kinda nifty. And he gave me a wierd look when I mentioned that I liked the 2 SVXs they had for sale there. "those are subarus?"

I didn't go back tehre the next time I needed parts .

I agree that new salespeople should get a least a brief history. But if you think about it, teaching a salesperson about a car that Subaru stopped selling in 97 seems a little strange. I mean they mostly deal with brand new cars, and cars that are a few years old. Why fill your head with facts about a car you're likely to never have to sell! If I was a new Mitsubishi salesman, I wouldn't expect to be taught about the Colt!

It seems that in the case of some cars, it helps to give a n00b a feel for the character of hte cars and company. this could make it easier to relate to a customer and sell to them instead of at them. Of course since most people are buying anonymous sedans to cart around the family, econoboxes to get from point a to point b, or extensions of their penis to impress the honeys (yo)... character might not be so big a deal.

Maybe Subaru is a little unique like this.. Most of the cars have a little personality to them, and even the most mundane legacy wagon can still be a ton of fun to tear up a muddy lot or snow field in. Things like RXs whose counterparts in other comapnies are as boring as boring can be, but RXs are coveted jewels in the subaru community.

you're lucky to have one :-D . I love classic subies. I even went through my dad's old Road&Track mags and clipped out all the subie ads. I have a couple RX ads.

I'd love an old RX, XT turbo, XT6, or even a turbo loyale wagon.

To answer the earlier question, I can't truly respect a salesman with little to no knowledge of the (car) companies history.
The things are still everywhere and come in on a daily basis.

The lady actually said I should apply and told me where to go to get an interview because my Subaru knowledge is so vast and superior.
