Quick question - rear main seal
When the rear main oil seal has gone down south and starts to leak, what are the symptoms (i.e. where does the oil drip)? Is this a common SVX problem?
The frightening question - what has to be done to fix it? |

Pretty much right onto the cat. My XT6 has been leaking there for 2 or so years. Either the engine needs to come out or the tranny does. All this for a $2.50 seal. Which is why the XT still has a leaking rear. I simply refer to any smoking or bad smells related to the leak as the car having diarrhea.

-There is a good and quick remedy for this ...
-It is a oil additive, and I have tried it in several occasions to fix this kind of problems. The additive is a "rubber conditioner", makes old stiff rubber like new again , and new soft rubber seals much better than a stiff one. I have used a product called "Omega" and another one I can't remember the name of, both worked. The only thing with these, they'll cost mucho dinero ... but compared to the alternatives, it's really cheap! /Sonny
