Sort of a good news / bad news thing...

Well, on Saturday I got up kind of early so I could check out the weather forecast for the rally. I was pretty cold, considering that it was 30ish and on Friday it had been over 70 outside.

Since the Justy's heat doesn't work very well, and Amber was still my codriver, I took the Justy into the garage and got to work on the heat. I managed to seal up the drafts, so the heat actualy works much better now. We got ready and took a trip to Target to get a stopwatch, calculator and a few other things. After we ate some lunch, we started towards Whitmore Lake.

And then we ran into the bridge construction. Traffic stopped on 23.

So, anyway, we missed registration. I didn't even notice, on the flyer for the rally, that there was an 'Intro to Rallying for Novices' at 1PM until we were sitting in the construction traffic - at about 1:45.

Working on the heat, cleaning the car up, running some errands and not reading the flyer carefully is the list of mistakes that lead up to me missing the rally. My fault.

But at least the heat works better in the Justy. Oh, and we found seat covers that fit it for $10 at Target. That's pretty good, because I've had the same ratty blanket, held on with a bungie cord, covering the driver's seat for a year and a half.

What I saw of the organization of the event was pretty impressive. Far more organized and serious than I had thought.

I'll be ready for the Twilight event in July. Since that rally takes place at night, I'm planning on adding some Hella lights to the Justy.

Nick,

You just got your first formal lesson in the wonderful world of rallying.
Namely, read everything they give you. Then reread it. then reread it again.

Yeah, no kidding, huh?

I think there may have been another lesson in there somewhere:

I should not be trusted as a codriver.

Oh, hey, I totally forgot!

The Justy rolled over 100k miles on the way to my aborted rally attempt.

Actually, if it had stayed as warm as it was the day before, I wouldn't have tried to fixt the heat, I wouldn't have taken the car on so many test drives that morning, and it would have passed 100k miles ON the rally.

Argh...

Thanks, but honestly it's probably not worth the trouble to ship them. Mine were seriously heat-damaged, as is the rest of the interior. $10 seat covers did the trick until I put in some Corbeau racing seats.

Talking More good news!

I just got an email from the Detroit Area SCCA's Rally Director. There are, apparently, Rally Cross events run by the Western Ohio SCCA for most of the year!

Here's the schedule:

http://www.worscca.org/rally/rally_sched.html

Once I get the SVX on the road, so I can risk damage to the Justy, I'll try to enter one of these.

HEE HEE HEE!!!
