Different kind of sunroof problem
Here is the small problem I am having with the sunroof on the 92 pearlie I just picked up. It seems different from other problems posted here.
While pressing the button, the sunroof pops up and goes back halfway; a second press of the button takes it all the way back. (This is nomal operation) When closing the sunroof, the panel slides forward normally to halfway closed. HOWEVER, a second press of the button does not take it fully closed before it stops. Sometimes it goes almost all the way closed, but stays flipped up at the rear. The only way it operates properly is to apply pressure by pushing up on the front passenger's side of the interior sunroof panel when it it moving forward from the halfway position. Seems like it is catching somewhere The tracks appear to be clean, lubricated and free of debris. No odd noises or binding is evident. Any idea as to what the problem could be that is overcome by applying pressure to the front right area of the panel?

I had/have basicaly the same problem with mine, Im not sure exactly what the cause is, and since the fall I haven't bothered to even open it.
I figure come spring, when the weather is warm(er) I'll clean and re-lube the track (though as in your case, it appears clean and lubed) but Im betting it's either a) A problem with the motor itself (though it sounds fine) or b) A alignment issue between the motor and track/guides With luck it's something that's an easy fix, otherwise off to the shop it'll go!

I had the same problem. If your arms are long enough, try this. Open either the passenger or drivers door and keep it open. activate the sunroof switch and watch the sunroof carefully as it slides to the point where it won't close. Look closely at the little plastic guides toward the front of the track.
The sunroof slides closed and the track has a little guide on each side that the sunroof rails slides into. Mine was getting stuck on the guide. I had to use a dremel and knotch out a tiny piece of that plastic guide (I angled it) so that the sunroof would slide in. I did this on one side then it started getting stuck on the other side. So, I did it there also. Now no more stuck sunroof. I'll snap a picture tonight to illustrate. |

Sunroof problem: FIXED!!
Thanks to svxcuseme, the sunroof problem has been fixed. I did the slight Dremel modification to both sides of the plastic guide and it now works flawlessly. I cannot figure how that metal tab would get out of alignment.
Thanks again for the help! .

Re: Different kind of sunroof problem
You guys are great, I just repaired my sunroof with this thread also. Each time I go away for a vacation I find a new problem with the car when I return home. The sunroof just stopped working while I was away. Works great now.
Thanks for your help.
