Road Trip in the SVX?

Should I take the road trip in the SVX? Would you Guys trust your cars on a 1500 mile road trip in this day and age?

I would definitely take a tool kit with me and a collection of fluids. Coming from someone that has taken long trips in both an SVX and an Impreza, the SVX is soooooo much more comfortable on a long ride. Not to mention you will look so much cooler in the SVX.

I did a cross-country trip in my SVX. Sure, it's got less miles than yours... but was yours abused like mine was?

I did bring along a bunch of stuff just-in-case, but ended up using nothing but the drinking water and the tire gauge. I brought motor oil, transmission fluid, premixed coolant, plenty of water bottles, a tire gauge, and a full tool set. Looking back we should've at least checked the coolant and such prior to going through Needles, CA but it held together, so...

The car is an absolute dream for a road trip. The one minor flaw in our plans was that with all the stuff in the car we couldn't recline the seats very far, so sleeping was... interesting.

Shame on you to ask this question if you're a mechanic...

Any well-maintained SVX should not have any problems to go on any long trip.....

I once took my teal on a long trip was like >36hrs non-stop rd trip including let my svx idle and sleep in the car. It was great! Well, that's quite a few years ago, if I am to do it again, I definitely need to do some services, tires and pads.

About 3 days after Tom finished my 5MT swap, I took my car on a 3200 mile road trip. I kept an eye on my fluids, but had zero problems. Car ran like a champ and road like a dream.

The SVX was MADE for road trips...Just bring a small toolset, some oil, atf, and water, and you'll be fine. If it does blow up, it would've done so on your way to work anyways, which makes for a lame story

I still consider my silver SVX to be in rolling rehab and rarely venture far from home in it, tho' lately I gotten to where I drive it three or four days out of five. The teal, I'd take anywhere... well, once I get the new AC compressor in, anyway.

Yes, take your road trip.

I'm making a road trip this January from NJ to AZ and back again. Worst comes to worst some board member in between here and there will get another SVX to add to their collection - I figure just keep some extra fluids, toolset, and maybe some belts and hoses and a full sized spare

Definitely on the belts, I forgot we brought those with us too. You do NOT want a water pump or alternator dying.

A road trip is just as hard on a car as driving it around daily is. You're not going to be doing anything on the road trip that would make it any more likely to blow up than you would be if you drove it to work and back.

I say go for it.

True, it's just a longer walk home if it breaks down.

I'd set my mind to take my silver on a 200+ mile trip last week, but the plans fell through. Bet I haven't been more than 30 miles from home in that car.

Really, if a car--any car--is well maintained and not misbehaving, the odds of having trouble on one long haul are fairly remote.

Tune-up, and keep an eye on the fluids, you should be fine. Membership to AAA wouldn't hurt though.
