Need new muffler, which is the best?

My muffler is starting to rot and I don't really want to pay $350 for a new one. I was wondering which aftermarket muffler would sound good and still be able to install it without installing a whole catback. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I'm taking it to the dealership today to start getting things fixed, it needs a ball joint, fluid changes, breaks and a few other things but the muffler would be the most expensive so I'm waiting until I can find so more options on that.

thanks,
~Ben

Basically, any muffler you put back there, you will pretty much have to redo the whole catback or better yet: resback. The stock muffler is so unique in size and shape, the best bet is to use a transverse mount muffler made for a Camaro. It sits from left to right like the stock muffler, but has an inlet on one side and an outlet on both sides. Magnaflow and Flowmaster and probably others make this style Camaro muffler. Best to start right after the resonator. I think Dayle at Motorsport-SVX sells all that stuff.

If you do not want to spend a lot, I would focus on finding an SVX that is being parted out, local to you. A used muffler will be much easier to install than aftermarket.

The Stebro (muffler only) will bolt up. Probably still not in your price range but an option other than stock.

sound ?

stock used or Magnaflow

Yea, the latter is what I'm looking for, a little better sound and I was hoping that an aftermarket soultion in the end would hopefully be cheaper than putting in a stock muffler for $350 plus labor. The stock muffler is too quiet for me and this one with the hole in it is too annoying.

You should be able to pick up a Magnaflow 12266 from us or
anyone for about $95
I did a Magnaflow on mine about 4 yrs ago and have never
been sorry, I also kept a resonator, to deepen the sound.
and have it installed for about $100 or so and you can still
use your stock tips if you want
Or go to a different tip at the same time if you want for a different
look

we have some here if you want to look
