what are these wires for?

Hi all,

I have a 95 SVX L model with the manual seats. No power anything on them. But when I took a look under the seat, there were two sets of wires connecting into the bottom. Anybody know what they are used for since the seat has no power adjustments on it? I know that sometimes companies standardize the wiring and therefore put the wiring in all models even if the low end models don't use them. So I know why the wiring would be there, but why connect them to the seats that don't have power adjustments? I was thinking of disconnecting them to see what happens, but I'm afraid I might break them or not be able to connect them back up properly.

Just a guess, but, could it be seat belt sensors? I'm not familiar with the L model, though, I may be soon. Film at eleven.

Those wires are for a power seat and if you find one, you can plug it in and it will work. Green1995SVX did that on his L model.

I'm guessing, it's the gizmo that makes the beep when your start the car for several seconds or until you click your seatbelt (whichever is first).

If you disconnect it it won't beep if your seatbelt isn't clicked.

I never checked on mine, but at least that's what they were for on my wife's Merc. Sable.

If it's prewired for power seats, that connector might be tucked under the carpet.

Like jeff said, I can tell you that they are for your power seat. Go find one and they will work like a charm. They are just stuck there otherwise.

Since I just took them out and reinstalled them I know what they are.

The larger one is for the Power adjustment for a power seat and the other one is for the Seat belt.

When i pulled the drivers out and mounted it elswhere I took the power plug with it. The seat fully worked in the other car but decided to put it back in the SVX.

Like jeff said, its for the power seats. All svx's have the same overall wire harness. If your car doesnt have an option, it IS prewired for it.

Thanks for the info. Good info to know in case I ever decide to upgrade to leather seats. I have already upgraded the steering wheel, shifter and parking brake to leather.

I know why the seat belt harness is plugged into the bottom of the seat. I'm not sure why the power seat harness is plugged into the bottom of my manual adjustment seat, but my guess is that it's better than having it dangle down and possibly getting caught on something and ripping the seat belt wiring harness out with it.

Now if I can just figure out how to get the seat to slide back another inch.

Yeah man, its just a dummy connector to keep the wires from just being there under teh seat. I did the leather upgrade, matched PERFECTLY and it really helped. That cloth is SO ugly. I wound up giving my old cloth seats away because i couldnt stand the sight of them in my garage!!
