Tires

My '92 SVX needs 4 new shoes. The old Yokohama AVS dB S2s are almost all worn down. They have been a good tire. But now they are quite noisy.

I have the stock size 225-50-16 and usually like to run ultra-high performance all season tires.

I've narrowed it down to two different tires. The first is the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S, and the second is the TOYO Proxes 4. I can get the 4 TOYOs installed, mounted, & balanced for about $80 (total) less than the Pirellis.

I'd like any SVXers who have these 2 tires mounted on their cars to post good and bad comments (reviews) of them. I'd prefer posts from SVXers that have at least 2,000 miles on these tires and live in snowy, or semi-snowy climates.

John H., I know you have the TOYOs. What has been your experience?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

I've got the proxes on mine, they were on when i bought it in feb.
they seem to be a good grippin tire, not sure about wear.
though you can forget about any real traction when it's snowy.
or maybe i'm just used to truck tires
when i replace these tires later this summer,
i'm goin w/ 18's and bfg kdw's and then run hanook snow tires on stock rims for winter.

Larry,

Definitely go with the Toyo Proxes4

I am running my second set of them and Pete just had a second set put on Olu's old pearlie. I can't be any more pleased with them. And svxcess is sometimes very hard to please.

They are very quiet, responsive and have excellent wet and dry traction and in snow. I got great mileage from them and no problem with them in Maryland winters.

Svxcess guarantees that you will love them. Something around $95.00 each.

Check THIS THREAD for a little more information from me and comments of other members with this tire

Paul at Radial Tire told me long ago that the Yokohama AVS db tires were quiet when new but got progressively noisier during the last half of their life. Sort of sounding like a bad wheel bearing.

The original set of Yokohamas that came with the car, and the Avid V4 tires I had put on after both became noisy towards the end of their tire life.

When I bought my 95 it came with new Toyo Proxes 4 tires on the stock wheels. A very good tire in my assessment in rain and dry conditions & not at all noisy. I switched up to 17" wheels and 225/45/17 Nero Zero M&S and although I sense a little more tire noise, the grip is better. They aren't a good choice for real winter driving but in wet or dry conditions, they do a better job. Gotta keep in mind though that the difference in the tire profiles also contributes to the observed improvement. If you factor cost in, you may well be better off with the Proxes 4 and I would speculate longer wear with the Toyo's also. Just my .02$

Thanks everyone for the input.

I originally wanted to get Conti-Extreme Contacts a few years ago but got the AVS dB- S2s because the Contis were always out of stock. I have been following reviews of the Contis since then and they seem to be either very very good or downright horrible. That tells me that Continental has inconsistent production quality control issues with this tire.

This time I'll probably replace the Yoko AVS db S2s with the TOYO Proxes4s.

It sounds like the conti's did have consistency issues, but luckily I have had good luck with mine.

Suxcess just gave us a $95.00 guarantee on each Toyo Proxes4 tire that we don't like or is it a $95.00 guarantee on a set of 4??

Either way, thanks Svxcess!!

I've got the Pirelli Pzeros on my car and I hate them....Had them for over 7,000 miles and they are the noisiest tires.
Save your money on these and get Toyos

When I bought the car it had two Proxes and two Yokohama's on it. That makes it kind of hard to judge, but the tires performed well for the short time they were on the car before I installed a matching set of Blizzaks.

I work at a tire shop and my boss says the best tire you can buy is Goodyear Triple Tread. Goodyear rates them 10 out of 10 on dry, 10 on wet, 10 in snow, I think 9 on tread ware and 8 on road noise.

Actually saw an SVX that came in and I asked my boss if I can do the work on it. He said fine, but tell me one thing, why do you like those cars so much. I said something about the design and rarity. I don't remember exactly. But it ended up needing four new tires and they installed Triple Treads. I remember thinking, wow, is that what it feels like to drive an SVX with a perfect tranny. . I saved the ticket of that car. The best car I've ever worked on. Besides mine.

Amazing All Season Tires

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=106

The new BFG g-Force Super Sport All Season tires tested as fast as the best summer tires and there's a video of them going uphill in the snow on tires.com. At under $120 a tire shipped with a 400 treadwear I wish I had saved for them

Re: Tires

Toyo Proxes4 = best tires I have EVER had on ANY of my cars. I put roughly 5000 miles on the set which was on my Pearlie, but I gave them up with the car when I sold it to Nate.
