bleed the abs pump

tech experts out there, is it a good idea, or is it necessary, to bleed the abs pump when flushing the brake system?

My mechanic thinks the pump gets flushed out as you flush the fluid so there's no need to flush the pump separately.

The SM says to flush the ABS block also. I did the 2 bleeder screws on top but I did not mess with the lines involved as the manual says. I thought I would not be able to fix the connection if there was a problem and it looks difficult to get a wrench in there also. A few others, if I remember correctly, say it caused some problems.
