If not SVX then what...

Hi guys,

I've had 3 SVX since 1995 and the last one was given away in 2011 when I was quoted a 6 month wait for simple parts to come from Japan.

Since then I've been distracted with work, but I think it's time to let my first love go (SVX) and move on.

But move on to where? The WRX is too harsh, the E350 4Matic too cumbersome and so on and so forth.

Is there a manufacturer that comes close to the mixture of comfort, performance and fun the SVX had?

Looking for help...

Thanks

Martin

Dodge Stealth or Mitsubishi 3000GT are comparable cars of the same era. In twin turbo form they are screamers.

Re: If not SVX then what...

Thanks, any thoughts of choices from the last few model years? Or have manufacturers moved away from AWD sports coupes?

I would stick with the SVX. What parts couldn't you get? Did you post on the forum and not have any luck.

Re: If not SVX then what...

The Spec B is the closest thing Subaru has made to an SVX since 1997. Especially since installing the 6-speed in my SVX, I'm always struck by the similarities between the two cars.

That being said, when the Legacy is due for retirement my next car will most likely be some year of 335xi, perhaps a 335d. I'm in no hurry to part with the Legacy though. 300HP, comfort, gizmos, 6-speed, Brembos, lots of personality, and 30 MPG make it a really great daily driver. Unfortunately Subaru doesn't have anything in the stable these days that can offer the same sort of combination. So it may be that in 5 or 6 years I'll be shopping for a 2016 BMW.

The SVX of course will always have a home in my garage.

Re: If not SVX then what...

I'm looking at an Infinity Q50 AWD. It's pretty comparable to the options the SVX has.

Re: If not SVX then what...

Landshark nailed it, as it turns out there was a 2008 A8 at the local Audi dealer. I'm moving to Montana soon and they have a 2005 W12 there too, so I got to choose. Both in the 20K range approx 90K -105K miles.

Not quite as "light" as the SVX but as luxurious, and the V8 at 350HP helps.

Also 4 doors makes it easier to get in and out.

Thanks to y'all for the advise.

BTW - the part I couldn't get was the under fender wheel-well protector, not a huge deal but a warning of things to come.

Audi A8 would be my vote. My brother has one. I'd stay away from the VW.

Re: If not SVX then what...

Audi A5 coupe I think in my mind is very comparable to the SVX. Beautifully styled, luxury coupe with AWD, some performance and priced well beyond my means when new.

I would probably have one of these if I could afford one (and the maintenance).

there are two rules in this world, that when followed, lead to a long and happy life.

don't mess with another man's french fries, and never buy a European car out of warranty.

I second this. I am a mechanic. I will take your money to fix the car but will also advise you to make smarter vehicle choices when you complain about the repair bill.

I agree with this. I know a person with one, their car payment is more than their rent..

Re: If not SVX then what...

i think an Infiniti G35/37 (whatever they are calling them now) AWD coupe is gonna be the closest modern SVX equivalent that is a combination of sport and luxury, reasonably priced, and fairly reliable.

i like Audi's, but i would NEVER buy one that's 7-10 years old with almost 100k miles. that's like asking to get kicked in the junk.
