Supposedly only 60 SVX's ever sold in France ..

I've been over here in Paris for the past couple of weeks .. haven't seen a single Subaru yet, let alone an SVX.

So, I d "Subaru SVX France" and found on a forum that supposedly only 60 were ever sold in this country. The forum embers were going crazy over it, 'cuz it's the kind of design/look that the French would / will go nuts over.

Mind you, I have seen a few new Peugeot RCZ's .. gorgeous car, France's (much better looking) answer to the Audi TT.

This is something that only a French SVX lover would understand. Jokingly put this on Cynthia's Citroen 2CV years ago. Only her version was all in French and looked quite authentic under the hood.

Here is the English version:

Re: Supposedly only 60 SVX's ever sold in France ..

And only two (2) were sold originally here in Finland..... now there's about a dozen, I believe.

The car had sticker price of 680.000 FIM just after the FIM was devalued, equals to well over 100k€ with a simple conversion rate.

Oh well,

Tapani

Mind you, I have seen a few new Peugeot RCZ's .. gorgeous car, France's (much better looking) answer to the Audi TT.

Nontheless, I'm somehow reminded of a retro VW Karman Ghia with too much grill.

Ron.

I understand that perspective. However, on the street, within touching distance, it IS gorgeous. Take it from me ..

Re: Supposedly only 60 SVX's ever sold in France ..

Just a small perspective about French cars... bottom line they are really unreliable when it comes to their mechanical systems.

The French themselves do say so about their cars. When some friends came here a year ago, they saw my ex driving one. They simply said: "are you crazy driving a renault?"
Lol it was funny.

Do not get me wrong, I love the looks of the RCZ, I see it as a revolution in design, the thing the French excel in. Dunno much about the car except this, but how would you feel about it if it turns out to be the same as the other French cars... at the mechanic's all the time?

Some people I know have a Renault Scenic?.
Pretty unreliable. Always getting breaking/playing up.
You go to pass a car and the auto light shoots up.
So have to pull over the side of the Road, Switch the engine off then restart it.
Then you can drive normally again. Aslong as you try make sure it wont drop down a gear acelerating on a hill or pass some one quickly
Even the Repair place cant work out how to fix it...

My Dad used to have one of the Last year paris built 2CVs
Fantastic car. I drove it a few times. Cheap to run and was fun to drive.
He had a Red and white Dolly.
It was funny cause people would pass you thinking you were driving some old slow oddball car.
But you would always catch up to them and get stuck behind them for the rest of the trip

Did you ever had a peek at its engine?
So small that you think it is stolen from a 50cc scooter or something...

...and only 37 were sold in Spain, as a Subaru chairman told me two years ago. Apparently there are 8 on the road now.

At the time the Svx was selling, there was limits for imported Japanese cars, so only 20 Svx/year could arrive at Spain.

But Subaru arrived to Spain in 1989/90, so the brand was unknown for Spanish medium drivers, and the selling price of the Svx made it near impossible to sell.

Re: Renault reliability ...

I know that reputation.

However, if I am not mistaken Renault now is majority owner of Nissan (which makes some incredibly reliable cars). Unless Renault are total idiots, they should learn something about building reliability from Nissan .. non ?

Do you know what transmission was in the car that was sold in Spain. Was it a VTD, or the 4ACT?
Harvey.
