1968 Subaru pickup on eBay

New Project Car?

I have no idea what I'd do with it, but I want it. I'm thinking WRX motor, and some added safety features like seatbelts.

Don't believe there is any way that they can be street legal in the US though.

I would be terrified to see that thing after a front end collision. Imagine a Smart Car without the strong safety cell.

Re: 1968 Subaru pickup on eBay

It's a Subaru 360 and yes they were sold in the USA and are street legal.
2 cylinder 2-stroke 360cc engine. They fit in the back of a full size pick-up. Yes I want one.
They are not all that rare but in good running condition they are.

I started having NIGHTMARES about telephone poles so I parked it.
Didn't get RID of it, just Parked it..
I don't think that a WRX engine in this piece would be over-kill...I do NOT believe that it should be on the STREET though!

Re: 1968 Subaru pickup on eBay

I was just thinking the other day that an RZ-350 Yamaha engine (350cc 2 cyl. 2 stroke) would give a 360 a much needed boost. It's a much higher performance engine with way more HP.

Oh yeah! I had a Yamaha RD 350 with that crazy engine, when the RPM reachs 3500... hold on tight because is like you are riding a rocket. Sudden power!!
I think that engine has 60-70 HP.

PS: The one on E-bay is not a Subaru 360.

Re: 1968 Subaru pickup on eBay

Didn't reach reserve at $1235.00? Maybe I'll grab it next time it comes up.
I'm opposed to putting anything but a boxer in a Subaru, but I could see a BMW flat 2 in there. Not enough room behind the axle for the WRX motor anyhow but I think we can all see the potential. I also wouldn't drive it anywhere without a full cage and harnesses in there, even with that tiny motor in it. Just looks like a little death-trap to me.

Subi-crosser: Is yours the infamous "Little Red Wagon"? That was the first thing that popped into my head when I stumbled on this listing. I think you need a little brother for it, I'm sure this thing would be in better hands with you than me, you should pick it up.

Yes it is a 360. They made a car, a van and a pick-up.

Nop...The pick-up was called Subaru Sambar, and shared 360 engine with its little brother, the Subaru 360.

Re: 1968 Subaru pickup on eBay

If you do get it then please keep the original 2 stroke in it. It is probably worth at least $2500 or so in its current condition. The windshield alone looks to be uncracked (impossible to find for the trucks and vans). Brakes and tires are the toughest things to come up with parts for but can be custom made or relined. Just think you could own one of the fastest 1/4 mile cars from the 60s. At least if you bump start it backwards and go in reverse as the engine will run just fine backwards and give you all the gears. You could make some money drag racing idiots.
