front axles?

Sorry I put this in the wrong threads.

Would bad front axles stop the car from engaging in reverse? How do you check the front axles?

The car will engage in reverse, no matter the state of your front axles. Maybe you have a transmission problem.

A bad axle can seem to duplicate a broken ring and pinion gear.
And depending on how an axle brakes it could react differently when engaged in reverse.
But if your transmission works properly in the forward gears, than this scenario is not probable.

Re: front axles?

Thanks guys! The reason I ask is someone mentioned the front axle caused vibration going up hill. I had that issue before I lost reverse. I thought that might have been related. I guess it was coincidence. I'm still looking for someone to do my swap within 100 miles. All the shops I've been to refuse or are scared to tackle this job. I'm waiting on one more shop who are Subaru transmission specialists. I gave them your instructions Tom. Thanks for your help.

Re: front axles?

My advice is still one of ECUTunes $1000.00 partially rebuilt transmissions.

And, naturally to have me install it!
