Re: paint??!?!

Never have seen one but I think the black top and trunk makes a nice accent for any color.

Re: paint??!?!

I would agree with Gene.

I love the SVX in any color with a black top,and even better with the rear windows smoke tinted to some degree, along with it. You could even perhaps use the Subaru metallic black that has green flecks in it... I think it is Onyx Black, IIRC... but that would need to be confirmed.

You could even go a slight bit further that direction and have some paint mixed... that is the darkest green possible, just one shade of green backed off from black... and do a bit of tone-on-tone. So dark that it would look like black most of the time... but in sunlight or reflection, it would show a green tint, to go with the main body color. (I am thinking for myself about how that would look with a blue/dark navy blue paint scheme...)

I don't instantly recall if the greens had tan interior... but with a tan interior, and the later yellow-tinted woodgrain dash panelling (not gray or the early "purple" woodgrain) and painted wheels with just a slight bronzed or yellow-gold tone, instead of straight grey or silver... and the bronze-tinted glass (smoke tinted glass aft of the doors, if it were me...) Would look great with tone-on-tone green paint.

That would be a nice lookin' SVX, right there. more toward the luxury look than the outright sporty looks, but still pretty slick.

What color of green?
Maybe something like this:

I just figured out how to do this in photoshop. Just wish I had a
better pic to start with, like 6 megapixels or better. Anybody out there
got a really sharp & hi-res pic with well defined edges?

thanks to davestone for the jpg

92 Green? Do you mean Teal? That's known as Peacock Blue in the home market, but if you say green, fine.

Subaru never sold a green SVX with black roof, but here are two photos of a 1991 prototype from the Tokyo Motor Show.

Now I know these pics look like two different colours, but I am convinced they are the same car, and photography is to blame for the tonal difference. I'll tell you why I think they are the same car:

1) Both are press photos related to the 1991 Show.
2) Both have an SVX sticker on the front lower edge of the driver's door.
3) Both have a radio aerial front centre on the roof.
4) They have the JDM style wraparound boot spoiler
5) If you look closely you will see they have bespoke green leather upholstery.
6) They both have the same wheels.

Same car, photographic tonal differences. I think it looks fantastic.

BTW I'm in absolute disagreement with Boxer [which is not usual, mind ] about a black roof on a very dark green looking good.

That's the tonal blend on the 222 cars, black roof on a nearly black very Dark Grey car. Looks all black in low light or darkness, only in the strongest light can you see the darker roof. I think it is a dumb combination, pointless. I'd prefer all-over Dark Grey, but that's me.

It doesn't look at all like BRG to me, but I'll admit there is a fair amount of latitude in what is allowed to be called British Racing Green.

I grew up in the fifties and sixties, and from the thirties to the sixties the commonly used BRG shades [which varied a lot!] were dark forest green colours, not light or mid green colours. So to me BRG is always a dark green solid paint colour, never these light metallics.

The world changes, I suppose.

Re: paint??!?!

I am sorry, joe...

I didn't mean for it to sound like Black-roof over very dark green...

I meant, instead of a black roof, go with a slightly green-tint, but very close to black on the roof, over the existing main body color.

I meant for the tone-on-tone look to be very dark, almost black color of green on the roof and trunk lid, with the original body color green, obviously much brighter color, on the rest of the body, as it already is, a much more stark contrast.

I like blue, myself, and I was thinking that tone-on-tone blue like this: (obviously not as hugely expensive... but for color reference...)

on an SVX... I would use the brighter blue as the main body color, and the darker blue on the roof and trunk lid top. The original post in this thread got me thinking about the same sort of theme in green.

The thought also crossed my mind, for my own blue-on-blue paint job, to do a tri-tone like a few of the silver SVXs, and use a third shade of blue, between the two, on the lower body cladding, delimited by a black stripe in the body-line channel. So basically it would be nearly-black navy blue on the roof, bright blue on the main body and hood, and a third darker blue between the two colors, on the lower body cladding.
There are so many good blues to choose from...

Re: paint??!?!

Ah, no need to apologise, everybody has different ideas and opinions, and are entitled to hold them. It's just a bit unusual for me not to agree with your ideas, we have similar taste I think.

And yes, sorry also, I misunderstood what you meant, you are talking about a Forest Green over Mid Green mix with beige or honey leather upholstery, that would be class.

Actually what might work really well as a variant on that scheme would be a black roof and trunk lid, but black enlivened with pretty big metalflakes embedded in the paint, green metalflakes close to the colour of the bodywork. The flakes would not want to be the huge ones, too bling. They would need to be mid to small size, and enough of them to give the hue to the roof when viewed up close.

That's a pretty fabulous blue on the Jaguar, my kind of colour there.

Joe

The Greenish Air SVX. A one-off example, which debuted at the 29th Tokyo Motor Show, October 25-November 8, 1991.
Also making its first appearance there was the 3 door Amadeus.

Now if you want to see a BEAUTIFUL green on the SVX, look at this repaint in "Emerald Mist", a 2003 Infiniti Q45 color. Paint code is D10.

I hacve seen this color on the Infiniti and it is absolutely gorgeous! Looks fantastic under all lighting conditions.

If I was going for a complete repaint to a different color other than Polo Green, this color is probably the only one I would definitely consider.

For some reason, it looks like it belonged on the SVX originally and doesn't have that repaint look. Has a harmonious look with the interior also

That color is remarkably nice on the SVX. It looks strangely warm and luxurious. hmmm....

Re: paint??!?!

So is there a stock yellow color? I think the SVX would look rad in Audi's Imola Yellow (or Nogaro Blue for that matter).

Sure there is Dave. It's called Bright Yellow, is a solid paint and the code is #518.

You can see all the stock SVX colour codes and markets in the How To:

John

Thanks for that additional information. Greenish Air, indeed.

Do you by any chance have a colour code for the paint on that Show special? I was so taken by the look of it I've been trying to track down what colour it may be.

Your Emerald Mist Infinity colour is a good approximation, and very nice it looks.

I've tracked another that looks quite like it, a Range Rover '96 colour called Caprice Metallic.

The nearest Subaru colour I found that fits the bill is Nassau Turquoise from 1990, that's a very likely candidate unless they mixed up a special paint for it which is not unthinkable.

With me having too many silver cars I could see the first one needing a respray getting a change of tone to Green!
