I found this looking at the Audi R8....

"Lumens per watt are the “horsepower” of light. For the sake of comparison, an ordinary household light bulb generates about 20-25 lumens per watt. A modern passenger vehicle’s xenon headlights, on the other hand, are very energy-efficient and create some 80 lumens per watt.

The first LED headlights in the Pikes Peak concept generated 18 lumens while the next generation of white high-performance LEDs hit the market this year with a whopping 100 lumens per watt – surpassing the efficiency of xenon lights for the first time."

The whole article is at

So, it looks like the technology is on its way

# It’s easy to install and will not burn/damage the wire harness
# Item in stock and ready to be shipped
# Increase Visibility When Driving at Night
# Give Looks of Headlight as Luxury Cars
# Instant "On" Provides a faster response time then other bulbs
#

Life Expectancy: 50000 hours
# FOR SAFTY: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED USE FOR FOG LIGHT OR HIGH BEAM ONLY

Much better than my previous halogen. Changed mine one at a time and compared them. They say the 9006 is to bright to get by with, Guess I will keep my HID lo beams and fogs because I keep them both on all the time the ignition key is on.

Re: Anyone tried led Headlights?

Any pictures of them shining against a wall? It seems like they would be bright when looking at them from straight on but I would think that they won't put out enough light to be useful at night.

Re: Anyone tried led Headlights?

Im rather hard pressed to believe these low cost LED headlights are anything but an eBay snake oil special. Much like the online $20 chips - $19.99 HIDs etc etc etc...I would need some direct evidence that these have anything like the same output as even run of the mill 9006s. They dont even cost as much as a quality set of silverstars. Explain why these havent hit the stores by storm?

I looked around online, and found nothing (much like one would find nothing, about the eBay performance chip) useful on these.

If I were to gander as to why these are 'not suitable' for low beams, it would be that the focus would be EXTREMELY off on these, and the glare would be horrible/illegal, and they dont want that publicity.

You can not take an article regarding the Audi LED headlights and apply it to these discount specials. as the LED upgrade on audi costs around $4000. They are obviously not the same item.

Hard facts please.

Probably a bit of the "greed factor" factored in on the Audi...

None of us would believe that a few LED lights, undoubtedly made in China, would cost more than a couple of hundred dollars for the whole thing.

LED light are a dollar a dozen and whoever sticks them on the Audi gets the rest!

Re: Anyone tried led Headlights?

Well you sure scooped those greedy Germans... Thought they could put in $38 dollar bulbs and sell em for $4000...

And since ya know, LED's are a dollar a dozen.. (they're all the same right? *cough*), those stingy germans only put in a total of 8 highbeam LEDs on each side of the car...U be cruzin wid 18 on each side boi!

So where did you install your cooling fans for the LEDs? Oh wait.. yours didnt COME with cooling fans? Thats mad yo, your LED's are so cool they dont get hot.

I think you need to pull those bulbs right back out, and send them to Car and driver mag and let them expose those German rip offs.

On a more serious note, can ANYONE find hard facts on these LEDs? They are obviously rip off, but it would be interesting to know how non-audi tech is going. an LED replacement would be nice someday, cant wait to see how close it is.
