Reading Drive. Vote if you're going to Reading!
As it seems the Rally wasn't as well utilized as in past years last year I offered to come up with a drive to a local place of interest as a group. It will not be a large group I won't be in charge of more than 15 cars in a group as it becomes dangerous. If there is more interest I'm sure we can offer a couple of groups led by some locals to the destination. Out of ease sake I'd prefer only one destination but if response is good and the top two are close maybe I'll draw up maps, etc for the top two vote getters.
I'd like to have this figured out by the end of February so I can work on routes, directions, etc. My thought is that we'd leave as a group and come back as a group at firm times but if you want longer to visit a place driving directions will be provided. I'll also want to know if it will be a Saturday drive or Friday drive as routes will change a bit. 1st des is the Strasburg Railroad. Estimated time there is 1 hour each way. It is a real steam engine which takes about an hour to ride. Very pleasant experience. My daughter drags me there about 4 times a year. Website is www.strasburgrailroad.com There is also a museum and some toy train places close by. Also for those not into trains there are about 5-8 antique places within 10 minutes of the railroad, a very quaint downtown with a couple of restaurants, etc. We will pass by the Lancaster Outlets for those who need to buy their wife yet another pair of shoes. More stuff than you could see or do in a day! 2nd Dest is the Mid Atlantic Aircraft Museum http://www.maam.org/ Drive time is approx 1 hour from the hotel each way. I'm not entirely sure where it is but will try to come up with some other attractions in the area. 3rd Dest is the Yuengling Brewery Tour. www.yuengling.com/tour.htm Drive time is approx 1.5 hours each way. Don't drink too much as there will be plenty of that in the parking lot! Pottsville is a very interesting old mining town. There is also a Cabela's located along the way. 4th dest is the Antique Automobile Museum in Hershey. Approx a 1.5 hour drive. Fairly new faciliity with cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles in realistic period displays. It is just outside of Hershey PA. Hershey Park/ Chocolate World is about 5 minutes away as is the Hershey Outlets. About 10 minutes away is downtown Hershey, a zoo, Hershey Gardens. More stuff than you could see or do in a day! You can vote for more than 1. I do have it set up so your vote is visable just so we can make sure that those who actually are planning to attend are the ones deciding where to go. Please, if you have another suggestion for a destination or want more info on a certain area let me know. I'd suspect that for virtually all of these locations it will take a better chunk of the day up (i.e. 10-5) so please be sure you are really into it!

Re: Reading Drive. Vote if you're going to Reading!
I was also thinking about two closer destinations.
-The Pagoda in Reading, http://www.pagodaskyline.org/ -Hopewell Furnace National Historic Park, http://www.nps.gov/hofu/ Both are about 30 minutes from Morgantown.

I think it would be a mess to get people through the city of Reading to go to the Pagoda. but that is my 2 cents. I will say that the furnace is not on the top of my list of things to do (I've been there) but the drive there might just make it worth it. Its fun out in the sticks!

Re: Reading Drive. Vote if you're going to Reading!
There are ways to get to the Pagoda without a tour of south Reading.

Re: Reading Drive. Vote if you're going to Reading!
Last week to vote. I see less than 1/2 of the Reading sign up list has voted. Maybe, they should plan a meet and see how much fun it is.

Re: Reading Drive. Vote if you're going to Reading!
I know planning stuff is a pain in the arse - I do it with our local Subaru club.
Representing some portion of those who haven't voted: What should we vote for if it doesn't matter to us where we go and when? I'd do any of these things, and I wouldn't want my schedule-and-event-indifferent vote to counter someone's preference of day or place. I'll be there for the headcount, but my input doesn't stand for much right now.

Re: Reading Drive. Vote if you're going to Reading!
You have to have a preference towards one of 'em or if you don't then suggest something else. Remember I live here and can go to any of the places listed any day I want so of course it doesn't matter to me one bit.
I have it set up so you can vote for all of 'em if you want to but without everyone's input as to if they like the ideas or not you get what someone else gives you. Personally, I'd rather spend my time in the parking lot but I also realize that many take valuable time off, spend valuable money to come to Reading. I enjoy seeing everybody there and if no one speaks up as to their desires many simply stop showing up. Quote:

Re: Reading Drive. Vote if you're going to Reading!
I probably won't leave the hotel/parking lot except maybe to get something to eat, so I haven't voted because I don't want my vote to skew the results towards something I most likely won't attend.
Perhaps others are also thinking along those lines?

Re: Reading Drive. Vote if you're going to Reading!
Which is perfectly fine, I knew you couldn't go far from your adoring eyes but like snow and I'm sure others have interest in a drive but just plan on showing up and going. Like I've already said I don't plan to have any large caravans anywhere as it isn't safe for anyone. Not knowing how many are truely interested makes it tough to have others willing to take a group, figuring out a place to for lunch without having crappy service or 3 hour service etc.
