Mine was a black unkempt mini-poodle named Teufel ("devil" auf Deutch), who succumbed to a stroke some 15 years ago. I literally bawled in the garage for 30 minutes after her lifeless form was given to me in a box by the vet.
She's buried in the rear of my yard under a flat stone on which I hand chiseled
her name & birth/death dates. I still clear the weeds out from around that stone. No, I'm not crying...there's a cinder in my eye, that's all.

Sorry for your loss, Earl. I understand.

Ron.

Oh man! I think losing a pet is one of the worst feelings a person could ever have. Its hard to explain, but its just not the same as when a person dies. You have this sort of eerie unspoken bond. And you know what every twinkle in their eye means and you understand what they're saying with every twitch in their lips or a flick of whiskers. I've lost many good companions of the animal kingdom and I still cry when I think about them. I'm just happy that at least your ole Boomer died peacefully...even if he was in pain at least you could say good bye. I'm sure he knew what was coming and he's probably curled up at your feet right now resting his head on your foot

The one on the left looks like Boomer and the middle one more like Sarah. What pups are these? They get me thinking.

Thanks. Yes, he died in my arms knowing I was there with him till the end. I keep looking around for him and I realize that he is gone. I am sure he will be there at my feet or beside me in my chair even when I don't know it.

Ron - I am with you on that one. I will be making his head stone in the very near future.

Thanks for all of the kind thoughts from all of you. It means so much to me in this time of grief. Just knowing I am not alone on this.

I don't know you personally Earl, but I feel your emotional pain. As a fellow dog lover who has had to put two "old best friends" to sleep, I know that there are precious few experiences in life more distressing. Hang in there. It takes a while, but the hurt does fade. Take care.

That was just a picture that I searched out on the internet. I don't know where it came from but it was the best one of mini long hair doxie pups that I could find.

Shall we look forward to the "new addition to the family" announcement any time soon?

By the way, it seems to me that you should have one dog for every SVX.

Sorry to hear that Earl. I lost my cat "Limpy" (reason being he had 3 legs) from a tumor and old age. He was 21. One of the sweetest animals I ever came in contact with. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have went to the vet and saw that red SVX. (The first one I noticed and ever since then I wanted an SVX) I lost one thing and got another. Don't get me wrong its not a replacement, but its pretty damn good.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I feel the great support from you and it does make it easier. I know time will help make things better. I still have one pup and will give her extra pats on the head.

I don't know if I am going to get another one, but if I do, I will let you know. Dog ownership is something I don't take lightly.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Boomer was such a great dog, I looked forward to seeing him when he was at meets. I'll miss comparing haircolor or seeing him trot around on those short little legs, I can't imagine how much you must miss him now. He was lucky to have you as an owner, it always seemed like you took excellent care of him. Give Sarah my condolences.
