Lots of people like the A-10 Thunderbolt:

Here is it's BFG, which is more massive than the VW bug it's next to:

The rounds weight over a pound each. I bet that gun can pulverize pretty much any armored vehicle.

I always thought the Saab jets were quite cool. But I don't really know anything about jets.

Of course the British Sea Harrier deserves a mention, given its VTOL capabilities. I once saw one hovering and flying backwards at an airshow.

I like this thread!!

Alrighty, my list:

The SU-37, because it does stuff that makes you say "That's not possible..." It can stop in midair by pointing it's nose straight up and I've seen it do an axial backflip at the top of a loop, and then complete the loop. Watch me!

The F-22

F/A-18E

A-10, because it looks like it wants to kill you

CF-104 Starfighter, the Aluminum Death Tube

YF-23

But, being a Canadian boy, I've got to say my favorite of all is the CF-105 Avro Arrow.

Oh, the guy that signed that picture, Jan Zurakowski, his granddaughter is a good friend of mine.

My favorite jet has always been the F-4 Phantom! Other favorites of mine are: the SU-37, F-16, F-16XL, and the B-1 bomber. One of my favorite prop planes is the Beechcraft Starship.

This is just awesome:

Yeah, that wins. Incidentally, I might be 'coming across' a piece of an SR71 in a few weeks.... which means I'd have the coolest keychain EVER.

The most amazing: SR-71 and B-2

The most dangerous: F-22 and Su-37

You just don't want to be on the ground when it's in the air: A-10

My selection overall would be the F-22, all things considered.

Re: Coolest jet ever?

It's not the coolest jet ever, but supersonic swing wing bombers are pretty cool IMHO:

Tupolev Tu-22M "Backfire"

The Tu-22 "Blinder" was pretty cool too, but they weren't swing-wing:

Of course this is the list today... as some might know, Russia has yet to reveal its definition of the 5th generation, so if it does happen I think that will definitely be on the top of my list. Even though the expensive F-22s and the so called JSF program have been tagged as 5th generation, they have already been criticized as still being a 4+ and can be matched by the airplanes mentioned above.

"Matched by the above"???? What are the STEALTH characteristics of ANY of the above??

My vote goes to Tu-160 "Blackjack" (they call it "White Swan" in Russia):
