i'm mobile again !! :)
okey dokey.......i FINALLY got 'er running again........
my charging system problem was traced to rotted wiring.......(and subaru's realllly bad idea on what constitutes proper connectors!!) the double whites off the alternator post lead under/behind the battery to crimp connectors electrical taped together from the factory ...... one of the wires leads to a TRIPLE(!!) connection of similar size wires ie: 1 wire branches into three wires... the other wire leads to a double connection......and one of THOSE goes right back to the field input of the alternator...... so, some new wires ans some fancy soldering work and were back on the road woohooo!!!!!!!!!!! lol

As the SVXs get older, we will see more of this all of the time. Good to hear you will be back on the road.

What were your symptoms? I have the alternator upgrade done (4g wire directly connected to the battery and ground), just wondering if that would totally bypass the problem you're talking about..

yes I would like to know too because I also have the alternator upgrade w/ 4 gage wire, but I have these bogged down startups intermittenly...but then again mine should have nothing to do with the alternator on startup.... hmmm

i suffered the dreaded christmas tree effect
lol had the alternator tested (out of car) and it checked out the battery was good up until the moment the "tree" lit up so it was most likely fine too that left wiring i am currently(get it?!? LMAO!) getting 14.54 v at the alternator and a reading of 14.14 at the battery so i still have work to do (checking and improving/repairing ground wires) the wires i used for the repair are too small,(10 ga) but i will keep my current draw to a minimum until i get better wire to do the job once and for all... question: instead of having the field wire connection all the way back over behind the battery, cant i just run a short wire directly from the alternator post down to the field input plug?......... that way, i can run a dedicated line to the field and also eliminate the "1 into 3" connection behind the battery and make it 2 "1 into 2" connections...... rob" i wish my parts car wiring harness was in good repair, but its worse than my street car's"m. lol ps.thanks ensteele! ricochet.........your wiring upgrade wouldnt have avoided this particular problem, your improvement ensures that the alternator charges the battery to full effect, but if the wiring harness rots and breaks between the alt/batt and the electrical system, then the car is still dead in the water... msvx95...your intermittent starting issues could be as simple as a starter thats on its way out (dragging and intermittent internal shorting out (grounding).............? maybe.......? oddly enuff the car would start right up and ran fine, as long as i kept jumper cables hooked up to the wifes van!! lol i should have taken pictures.......subaru uses cheap ole plain metal crimp connectors to create these connections and they rot over the passage of time..the wires were broken completely apart yet STILL somehow had a bit of continuity through them...the only thing holding them together was the electrical tape!! and a TON of green copper corrosion........ i can only assume that with ZERO continuity, the car wouldnt have run at all, since even the computer wouldnt have had juice......
