Weird Power Window Problem
Alright first off i've read the other threads but I havent seen a case that resembles mine:
Ok first off, I cannot roll the passenger window down, but it goes up if I use the passenger switch (not the master one on the drivers side) From the drivers side, I cannot do neither. I have already took the driver's switch apart and spray the copper contacts with wd 40 and rubbed it with rubbing alcohol via q-tip. it cured a bad connection to the rear but still no change with the passenger. So my question is: How do I make it so I can get it to roll up and down from driver's side, and how do I make it so it can roll down from the passenger switch ( seeing how it rolls up when I use the passenger switch, but doesnt budge an inch from drivers neither up or down ). It does not make a humming noise when pressing the down button on neither sides, so I don't think its the sleeve lock regulator (unless this affects the motor in some way) any advice will help |

I probably shouldn't have cleaned it with WD40 huh? I just read now that youre not supposed to use oil based stuff on electrical contacts. Dammit.... (didn't want to fork over 10 dollars for some damned contact cleaner @ radio shack)

What is the centre off position in both switches has a selection function, and if the contacts involved are not making properly, this will affect selection of up and down modes. Therefore you should also check the passenger side switch and wiring.
I do not think the cleaner you have used would leave enough residue to cause any problem in this instance. Contact pressure in all positions is important. The system and wiring is complicated and I wish the best with your efforts.

I don't want to insult your intelligence, but is the lock button off? It is the button above the switches that will lock the windows from being opened or closed.

LOL Don't feel bad I have the same prob with my car! From the driver side I can roll all windows down, but I can't roll up my passenger front and drivers rear window...this has been on going and is now to where I can't roll the passenger front up either and veen the passenger front switch itself is getting sticky. I have to push the button really hard and sort of at an angle to roll the window up or down . I havn't taken it apart yet to find the problem, but I have extra switches from my other svx thank god!

I can't roll up the passengers side window. It will come down, but won't go up. I have spare switch but I haven't had the time or patience to try putting it in. On a related subject my windows won't roll up all the way when I'm going 70 mph or faster. They reach the lip and stop. If I slow down to say 60 mph they then roll up fine. Is this wind resistance or something? Maybe the door or window flexing?

If I have time during lunch today I'm going to replace my master switch and see what happens. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

On a good fine day, roll down the windows and use something like a cane, something fine that will flex, with absorbent dampened cloth on it to clean what you can from the channels at the sides. When these are fairly clean [the damp cloth will not be coming up dirty] let it dry, and then apply some petroleum jelly to these runners. You could also put some on the side edges of the glass too. Don't over-do it. You only need a smear of the lubricant all along the channel. Once the window is nice and free in the channel, the motor will not need so much torque to push it home. Joe

Being on a university-student budget, I need to wait a bit for a pass. window switch. Sorry all for being unable to share if this will work or not. But
Cleaning master window switch WILL help those windows that take many pushes of the button to go down (or holding down for a long period) my rear rightside would only go down if i held the switch down for maybe 2-3 mins or if I kept on pressing it, but after cleaning the switch (used rubbing alcohol + q-tip and wd40) and tada it acted as if it was brand new. didn't help my "goes up not down" pass window. |

If you've had the lock buttons apart on the driver side, you know that the switch has a little stick that goes down and presses the buttons. On mine, the little stick that goes down, the holder for it was broken but on one side, so it would roll down, but when i pressed it to roll up it would bend the stick back so it wouldn't make the contact. Take the switch out, and try to press hte little stick in both front and backwards. If it moves, just put some superglue in there and let it set. Fixed my windows.
