dcb, no offense dude but saying the SVX is NOT a money pit would be the furthest from the truth, don't get me wrong I absolutely love my svx and wouldn't get rid of it for anything, and perhaps you've lucked out with a maintenance free svx, but from my experience and from reading the woes of many others these cars are very very expensive to maintain...even more so if one doesn't have the mechanical know how...since I've bought my svx which was for 7k in 2001 I've spent the following
Rebuilt Transmission....$2200 Radiator.....................395 Power Steering Rack.....800 Yet another Transmission...$1000 That's a little over $4k just to keep it on the road, not even accounting for the brakes, numerous oil changes, tires, and cosmetic improvements (wheels, headlights). Which easily surpases $3k...and i barely drive the car, i've had it since 2000 and have only put 40k miles on it! I wouldn't say these cars are reliable either because I am constantly evaluating what every little hick up, transmission flare, shudder and shake could mean down the road... Great car but these cars are perhaps the biggest money pit's out there! Aside from your older much higher end vehicles... |

I don't have the lowest mileage one anymore, but I bet I am racking up the miles at one of the slowest paces... ...
I think in the last year I have put right about 4,000 miles on it... Now sitting at 104,xxx... And I still Autocross the hell outta it!!!

I had a 1990 subaru legacy that had 400,000 miles (to which i did nothing but general maintenance, never had to replace pulleys, just regular maintenance) on it that required 10x's less maintenance than the svx...so i guess i am kinda skewed in my perception of what a reliable car is...a car that needs something new or replaced every couple of months (which the svx usually needs) is a not so reliable car, in my opinion. the subaru legacy, at least the early 90's one's were a reliable car.
In all fairness though i am surprised more isn't wrong with a car from which a company only produced 25k. I imagine toyota is so reliable because it has bench tested hundreds of thousands of toyota's. |

A money pit isn't someone paying a large car payment for a car....i wouldn't consider $500, $600, $2000 car payments for a porsche or ferrari a money pit, if you can't afford that type of car your an idiot for trying to do so in the first place...
A money pit in terms of cars is one where your always fixing something which by my definition fits the svx perfectly. I've learned an exponential amount of car knowledge from the svx just by having to fix so much random crap! |

I'm glad I started this thread so now I know my competition insofar as making my red/beige 97 the lowest mileage SVX in the USA.
Since I also have a black 95 SVX it may be easier for me than other lovers of SVX's to keep my mileage low. I can still get my SVX fix and keep my mileage low at the same time. Anyway, I'll restart this thread in 2027 or 2037 . By then I'm hoping I can have the title of the "Lowest Mileage SVX In The USA". |

I hope to have rolled the odo by that time.
Then I would have the "lowest mileage" SVX, in the world.

Sorry NikiFu, but by 2037 technology will exist that detects odo tampering. Also, by 2037 mileage will be determined by government run satellites and video images from these satellites will automatically determine mileage driven.
Odo's will be useless by then. the satellite videos will prove that my red 97 is really the lowest mileage svx. video images will |
