question on engine mounts for 5mt conversion.

Well I was going to take my time on my conversion but it looks like my trannie is going before I'm ready. (car overheating only when tranny is engaged, and it overheats really quick.) I have a question about the motor mounts. I'm putting in a wrx 02 5 speed that apparently was converted for our car with the small car kit. It has everything but the motor mounts. Now are these necessary to make it all fit or will the svx motor mounts be fine other than not being as stiff as the group N motor mounts? If I have to get the get the other mounts and fabricate the extra spacers anybody have any more detailed info on this other than the Huck writeup? Thanks everybody. (crosses fingers there will be one more 5mt svx soon)

Does your tranny slip or is the car overheating? Radiator maybe?

Yeah my tranny has been slipping I guess for the last 10k miles (I'm assuming that what the mechanic at subaru meant when he said it's very slow to engage. He also said the only fix was a new tranny heh.) I don't think its my radiator I got one of those 5 pass PWR ones so it should be holding up no prob.

Stock SVX mounts work fine for me. Pay close attention to the transmission cross member. If you can use the WRX trans cross member, all the better. Good luck. You won't be dissapointed.

Group N mounts will probably be cheaper than the SVX stock ones if buying new. Correct me if I am wrong though.

If sticking with the old SVX motor mounts...

Make sure to support the front of the engine when removing the old 4EAT. Also, keep the front of the engine supported while the trans is out and during the 5mt install. Otherwise the engine will pivot forward and you will tear your SVX motor mounts in 1/2, as I did.

Radiator doesn't do much if the water pump is shot.
