if you get pulled over how is the cop going to know that it is modified. any md any modifacation outside of stock is 'illegal' depends on the cop.

I'm not sure it's illegal...
In NJ the law only states that any lights visible from the front of the car must be either white or amber in color. Try to find a law regarding the modification of bulbs placed in DOT inspected headlights...

there is no specifics on lights in almost all state but having to do with the color and visiblity of car being seen. u dont even need brights. just any light and turn signals. as for tickets it would be to hard to prove in court about the brightness of the lights. especially if the cop has glasses and in that case u are definatly home free.

up here u see people driving with million candle powered spot lights in winter. but they know to keep them to the outside of the road (for all the killer moose). just so u know a moose is twice to 3 xs the size of a horse. they cross highways and if u hit one good luck on living. the legs get clipped out from under and the animal falls directly on top of the winshield. i seen this happen in front of me in person 2 times and one was a friend i was suspose to ride with and he lived. nightmares. sorry to get of topic just a little alaskan info. those in canada got to know what i mean to.

maybe stupid question, but what is the big advantage to 9005 lights over 9006?

They put out more light and you can finally see. I was very dissapointed in the lights of the SVX until I went with those. It seemed that the lights were not bright enough. Now with the modification, they are bright enough to see on low beams.

According to Daniel Stern's lighting FAQ, a 10 year old projector assembly only passes an average of 60% of its original optics capacity. So if the 9006 is 1100 lumens * 60% = 660 lumens on the road assuming a perfectly clear outer lens. Then the 9005 is 1900 lumens * 60% = 1140 lumens on the road again assuming a perfectly clear outer lens. So, the 9005 merely brings it back to the original optics performance. I know new headlights are expensive, but it does solve the need to switch to 9005s to obtain stock performance. Doug

ok lets say that is right. u think suby is still wasting money on making headlamps for the svxs. there is not much of a market. they still could be for a very steep price. junk yard would be best bet or part out on ebay but those are not new. i have not took mine apart yet but is there a way to scrap the old lens and mod a new one to fit (bubble convex lens).

As for replacing the lens. Sure you can. The question is with what? No one knows the specs on the stock projector lens. Perhaps a generic Hella 120mm projector lens will work, perhaps not. We need an engineer type to measure the light characteristics of a new SVX lens to determine what replacements are available. Doug
