Noise from front
I hear a almost brake grinding noise comming from the front middle of my car when I hit the gas and it isnt the brakes. What else could it be, anything in the tranny?

Does it make the noise when the car isn't in gear (Park or Neutral)?
Does it make the noise when you're in Reverse? Have you checked the fluid level in the transaxle (dipstick on the passenger's side of the the transaxle) -Bill

What he said. Plus potential items could be a bad tranny mount or something rubbing on the driveshaft or exhaust depending on how forward the sound is.

Does it only happen when u hit the gas? I had a grinding noise happen when i hit the gas in my car...turned out to be a loose bolt somewhere on he exhaust.

Only happens in the drive gears. The diff was a little low and filled it and still happens. I hit the gas in park and in neutral while rolling and nothing.

Others have more knowledge than me (by a long way), but I think you need to say if it makes the noise while in neutral AND the car is rolling.
If you were low on diff fluid, I might suspect final drive gear wear...if so, I think it would make the grind while rolling - even while in neutral. it could also be the reduction gear set internal to the tranny, but I don't know if that will/won't make a noise while rolling in neutral. since it won't be loaded up my guess is the low would drop off significantly during a rolling neutral. |
