5mt Rebuild

Hey guys. I am looking to buy an old case fr a 90-94 legacy cable clutch trans. I am also looking to build it with all new gears and bearings and such. How much am I looking at here and would I be better off going another route? My trans is pretty loud in 1st and a little whiny in 2nd. Also regaurdless of what gear I am in it makes this rattling sound at 2500 rpm. and then goes away after I pass though that rpm. I duno whats going on with the box, it has held up in the same condition for over 4k since I have had it with no changes. So basically I want a new trans without paying for one from subaru(prob 2k for a rebuilt box). So if anyone has any suggestions please fire em at me. I want my trans to be able to hold the stage 2 nitrous kit from the top end of 1st into 2nd 3rd and maybe 4th when i go to the track. I will not be launching with a 160 shot and blowing my case to peices. So basically i need a new trans or an old one that can be rebuilt. Anyone who can help me out please throw in some feedback.

Tom

I don't want to ruin your hopes, but for what you are willing to pay, you cannot get what you want. No matter who you go to, its going to cost at least $1500 for a rebuilt tranny. If the tranny is going to actually survive a 100 hp nitrous shot, you're going to need all new internals, and that's about $1300 all by itself. It takes at least 6 hours of labor to do a rebuild (6*$60=$360).

so what is my best shot. What i mean to say is what would be the best thing for me to do? Just get a used box and hope it works? I don't want to do that so what would be my best route. Lets just forget about the nitrous shot for now as I do not have it yet and it could be much longer till i get it. What should I do to get a decent trans that will run properly?

btw I can put it together myself instead of having a shop to do it. I am just not familiar with subaru 5mt's. I f it is too much of a job for me to do I know a shop that can do it for me for free if it is nessecary, but i don't like to rely on them.

cable activated clutch and 4.11 gears. I don't think they will be able to help me.

If you want a trany for everyday driving, then keep your eye out for a used low mileage tranny. Are there any wrecking yards in your area?

Do you think a 90-94 rebuilt subaru tranny will hold up under that nitrous? I don't think your gonna find a stock cable activated 4:11 tranny that will hold up under that power. I got my brand new tranny for $1200. i think they have one left where i got it.

wrecking and salvage yards are one solution but, I was wondering if I should go rebuild one or find a low mileage one. I will search for a used one now.

im using a cable activated clutch so that trans won't work. I would look into that one though I've heard that they are good.

I planned on using the same clutch I have as it is in primo shape with minimal miles on it. I just want a newer trans that doesn't make so much noise.
