I prefer changing them all for not risking uneven fire... Even if a couple only need changing. identify the damaged ones, change the whole coils and leave the good used ones as spare...

I suppose it could be done, but it would involve rewiring some of the wires going to the coils. I'd think it would be far easier to just replace a bad coil pack, esp since the SVX coil-on-plug design is far superior to any other design wrt to performance.

The aussie's do this when they start making big power. I think they use regular bosch coils the 2 plug ones, a pair of those (though you'd need three), and I dont know what they do to control it. Ask this question on bbs.rslibertyclub.org

well you are right but that fact of the metter is the the coils are outdated by a good 10 years and a system think the one im talking about will give me more powerfull spark then the svx coil pack with the msd stacker 8. the max voltage on the svx coils is 38,000 and that was tested by msd the pack i wont to put in are 40,000 volt stock

I really don't see the point. Has anyone here ever had a misfire problem when there wasn't a spark leakage or bad plug problem? Consider that the waste spark coil fires twice as often and the saturation time is half that of a single coil/cylinder setup. Another consideration is that the coils may have more draw on the primary circuit since the spark is split between two cylinders. This new, higher draw might wreak havoc on the spark controller. I can't tell you how many times I've had to remove Accel Super Coils (or whatever the heck they were called) that some yayhoo had installed because they were frying OE ignition amps. Yup, they may work for a month or two but when you least need it to happen, phhht! there ya are on the side of the road... YMMV

well considering i have one coil pack so far going out, was considering replacing the system with a new either COP MSD system, or a coil pack system with MSD controller, and replace the Control system. Benifits at lower rpm would be good, using a pulse spark offered by the newer MS controller. Plus all this could be put together for alot less than the replacement cost of 6 new coils.

Even though the SVX design is over 10 years old, its still a state-of-the-art design. There's nothing better than COP.
Which MSD system were you looking at?

Might I offer that you remove the suspect coil and examine it and the spark plug for signs of spark leakage? Typically coils don't act up intermittently, they normally work or not. Coil insuating boots are a typical problem on our cars, as are cheap (not to be confused with inexpensive) spark plugs. Small lines that appear as pencil marks on the outside of a spark plug are tell-tale as are gray streaks or dots/holes on the side of the coil tubes.
