freedom

If America is freedom... and it is...then why can't I be free of Bush? I had his dad 4 years, his kid 4 years, and how long's Jeb been in Florida? Sounds more like a monopoly. The thought of 4 more years of George makes me feel like getting drunk.

I want a two-stage voting system. First we vote for our first choice, or at least whomever we would most like to see in the running. Then, we can vote for any people we don't want in office. The candidate with the best negative / positive ratio gets the throne.

I'd like to see a trial-run of this done simultaneously with a normal election. If it didn't yield absolutely crazy results, and I don't think it would, I bet it'd probably give us a chance of seeing somebody we actually want behind the helm. ...of course if it did work, it'd probably go to that place where all the other good ideas that pass through our government offices go: Away from the light of day. :/

If America is freedom...then why can't I be free of liberals? The thought of 4 years of Kerry makes me want to move to Switzerland.

This is an interesting thread.

Congratulations to all you guys who have been able to put various points of view across, many of them polar opposites, without it degenerating into a flame fest. Good to see people have respect for others' views.

I can't vote in the US, so I won't vote in the poll. I had great respect for how Bush handled the 9-11 situation after it happened. That's as far as it goes.

I really can't stand how he has unilaterally disassociated the USA from the Kyoto protocol, simply because the measures required would cause business problems for his buddies.

To us outside the US, looking in, this attitude is symptomatic of a "go it alone" approach to world politics, which has caused deep mistrust of the Bush administration among nations that would have been traditionally very pro-US. Going into Iraq without United Nations support certainly proved this point. Like most of the civilised world, I shed no tears for the ending of the Hussein regime. It needed to be done, but it should have been done properly, with more support than just a puppet UK involvement. The [so-called] intelligence community pretext for invasion was a joke. Weapons of mass destruction my a$$. Weapons of mass distraction more like.

I really don't know who is going to win, but I would not like to see Bush back for another term. The longer he is in, the world perception of the US will move closer than you might like to the "bear stalking in the woods" appelation that was used for Russia during the Cold War.

From World Policeman to Desperado in one not-so-easy lesson.

Joe

PS I'm not that keen on Michael Moore either. He's amusing enough, but I can't see his production company getting ready to do a "Supersize Me" sequel.

Unfortunately, we lack a suitable replacement for Bush. Therefore it is doubtful that he will be voted out. Our choices right now are, Bush - guaranteed relative safety and alienation from the world, or Kerry - no guarantees at all. So we're kinda screwed. Kerry has failed to generate confidence, Bush has shown that we can depend on him for certain things...some good, some bad. When it comes down to it, a predictable candidate is going to win over one who doesn't seem to stand for anything.
