Tranny cooler installed!!!!
Today i am one happy SVX'er. I finally after a week of waiting got my tranny cooler installed. My friend Omar ( BXSVX) came over and we got the install done in about 30-45 mins or so. Install was nice and easy....the big cooler fit nicley inbetween the radiator and a/c condensor. Its a flex a lite 26,000 GVW. We took that pan off underneath the car...made things 100 times easier. We had to leave it off because we snapped all the bolts . We also took that insulation off the bottom of the radiator and cleaned out all that grimey and nasty crap. There was alot! The car runs great now....a/c is 10 times colder and im lookin forward to a long SVX life . We took it for a test drive and beat on it pretty bad LOL....fluid was still pink and smelled like brand new fluid. I'll be keeping my eye on the fluid for the next few weeks to see how things go. But all in all i'm happy i solved the tranny issues for now!

Is there any good online reference (even better if SVX specific) regarding tranny oil coolers? After my car comes back from getting the tranny rebuild done, I want to install one but don't even know where to start as far as making a decision on which to get and whether to have a shop do the install, or do it myself.
Thanks in advance!

I got a run-of-the-mill, mid-sized cooler at an auto parts shop for under forty dollars; don't even remember the brand or specs. In terms of constructiuon, almost all are essentially tubing surrounded by an array of heat-dissipating aluminum fins; you just don't want one that's too small nor need one that's too big. Mine's installed in series: Transmission--external filter--radiator cooler--supplemental cooler--tranny, and it's located between the AC condensor and radiator. If you'd be comfortable removing your car's radiator, you'd have no trouble installing a cooler. Now, get set for a dozen or so alternate views on the matter. dcb |

The two primary options are 1. between the radiator and a/c condensor and 2. in the driver's side wheel well. I've got pics in my locker of option 2.
-Bill p.s. you also get to decide if you want to bypass the existing cooler in the radiator, run your new cooler in series with it (what I did), or run it in parallel with it (I wouldn't recommend this)

Bill,
Why would you recomend against running it in paralell?
I ran mine in series mostly because it was easier, and quicker. No spare time Tom |

basically because a fluid will follow the path of least resistance - which means that you may get little or no flow through one or the other cooler. I did mine in series because I wanted to take advantage of the radiator-based cooler during the cooler months to ensure that the torque convertor locks up (i.e. I don't want the fluid staying too cool). I think if I hadn't just put a new radiator in (with no internal screen) I might have just bypassed the radiator-based cooler all together. I'm still looking for a trans temp gauge so I can actually see what temps I'm running now. -Bill

I have also been considering a Tranny cooler. Does someone have a How-To kind of document explaining which part they bought and how/where they installed it?
I know there are a million that will work... my mechanic said he can help me with it easily if I knew where to put it. I was hoping someone could show me a link to buy one and a pic of where they put it? Thanks!

What did the flex a lite cost?

Mine is attached to the radiator (buffered), with no A/C condensor, with totally external piping.
Pics when I get my net back.
