It isn't about $4 - it's more about being ripped off. If the suggested price for the filter was $10, then I'd pay it. But I'm not going to support a dealer that tries to jack prices up like that.

Even red95svx who works for a Subaru Dealership says that price is ridiculous. Plus the Purolator Pure One will be a big step up from the crappy Fram filter that's on there now...

The 1 inch nut on the K&N filter HP 1004 makes it a lot easier to loosen and tighten the filter. These cost around $10 from web dealers, or about the same as a mobil 1 filter.

I use a Fumoto valve on the drain plug and am hooked on the convenience.

Did the the oil filter change today and my car is purring... Synthetic oil really seems to make a difference in these engines! I'll never put the regular stuff in this engine...

Chike, If your experience follows mine, stand by for oil leaks!! The Synth literally scrubs away all the crud in the seals/gasket joints that have been holding back the tide. I kid you not!!

Glenn

...and, yes, the engine will be running quieter and smoother than before while it stains your garage floor.

fun fact: "Subaru OEM" filters are purolator. not sure if they're regular or PureOne, but I'm pretty sure they're the "regular" variety.
