Yes, and if done correctly, you will not gain any speed as you descend.....which is handy for slips to landing.

I LOVE to purposely come in high on final and forward slip to a landing........YEEEHAAAWWWW!!!!!!

the added value of burning altitude in a hurry.....

I once helped a friend build a kit plane. It was still pretty
big though. So anyways, I watched the maiden voyage
of course, but he crashed upon landing. He cut the motor
and it never restarted, and he just ran out of "air".
I swear I felt the earth shake he hit so hard, before burying the prop into the earth. We quickly got him outta there, blood running
down his face, and into a hangar...just as a cop rolled by.
It wasn't registered yet, and it was a close call! He told the
emergency room he fell off his bike! (This was at a private airstrip) I have a lot of plane stories, having grown up next
to this airstrip.......
