I believe the bolts actually bottom out for the valve covers. Not 100% sure. If that is the case...
adding a thin washer would put more pressure on the seals for each bolt and also would increase the pressure on the valve cover gaskets that fit on the edges of the covers.

I have not meaured clearances but it also brings the valve covers that much closer to the cams as well... Just something to think about
