Re: New SVX Bonnet & Guard

Double checked with subaru and they confirmed that it is just the rubber molding that goes around the windscreen

Re: New SVX Bonnet & Guard

I've been through this with my windscreen as well.
Windscreen shop bought an aftermarket screen (no rubber bits) for about $NZ400, tried to get the rubber from Subaru, no go.
Sent the windscreen back.

We did find that Smith & Smith Glass had a screen in stock in NZ for about $NZ1500 with the correct rubber parts.

If it would fit in my hand luggage I'd bring it with me.

Re: New SVX Bonnet & Guard

My insurance company have confirmed today that my SVX will be repaired and not written off! Woo hoo! Will be fixed at Randal's Smash Repairs in Maitland, NSW - great guys to deal with.

Roof will be popped out and windscreen fitted. They will then give the car back to me to drive around in until the bonnet arrives - they found a brand new one in Japan, so may take a while to arrive.

Then they'll recall the car, put the new bonnet on, panel beat the guard (only minor damage), replace the LH external mirror (hopefully buying a spare one from 'Brady'), fix rear spoiler and then spray. Luckily all mechanicals are in perfect order as they were before the roo accident!

Ok, but now I'm a tad confused. The windscreen will apparently be tinted green, instead of bronze and it's coming from O'Briens Glass I think. Do they need to use the old rubber? Or should I be chasing an OEM windscreen, which apparently is still made, but only when there are enough orders for a job. Will these guys at O'Briens Glass know about reusing the rubber part automatically? Has anyone in Oz had a new aftermarket windscreen fitted and can give me any hints?

Would they still have it, Shane? My insurance company does specifically say that OEM parts MUST be used unless there are zero available ......

No idea.
You might want to contact them directly :
http://www.smithandsmith.co.nz

It's a big outfit, so if you don't get anywhere then let me know.
Even if you find one, not sure about shipping to Aus.

Aren't Subaru Aus able to supply one ?

Thanks, Shane.

My smash repairer has already ordered an aftermarket windscreen after he had searched high and low for an OEM one - he has meticulously heated the old rubber off the original windscreen as he knew the universal rubber would produce a lousy job. Windscreen from O"Briens.

No, Subaru Aust couldn't supply one either. Checked myself.

Thanks for the external mirror, Mike!

Now, how long does it take for a bonnet to be shipped from Japan .......
