Re: cfm to hp conversion

All this math is reflecting an engine with 10:1 CR, right? You would need a lot more if you adjusted the CR properly for a turbo.

These are theoretic formulas defining parameters for a target HP based on the airflow (CFM) required for that HP through any displacement engine. Just playing with the numbers to help me understand it better. Compression was not factored.

130 was the temp their example used, I guess assuming that even the charged air could be cooled that much with an intercooler.

Re: cfm to hp conversion

Water to air intercoolers are the most efficient.
A water to air intercooler system will have a
1)radiator to dissapate the charged air heat, a
2)water to air intercooler,
(a radiator, with a sealed air passage going through the heat exchanging fins)
3)a pump to cause the weater to flow through the system.

The lowest temperature that you can hope for with this system is whatever ambiant temperature is.

This temperature can be lowered with either a gas (CO2, nitrous, whatever)
or physical element,(ice, cold water, etc.)
