Struck down in the prime....
My Aunt passed today. The odometer was about to turn over.
She raised my Dad from the time he was 4 (when my Grandmother died), until he became the outstanding Man that he was. (she was 11 at the time). She never made her 'mark' on the world, since she married a farmer and did what farmers wives do. Canning, cooking, etc.. Whenever I happened by, she always had a 7 course meal that she could throw out in 15 minutes or less, (without a micro-wave), and had a cake or pie 'just' coming out of the oven! I NEVER heard a 'cross' word, never heard a raised voice, not a word of gossip. I only knew her for 55 years, though. She might have had a 'Wild side" that I missed. I saw a lot of her in my Dad, and a lot of Dad in her! They were both OUTSTANDING people. I am sure that her 'nurturing' played a large part in the character that my Dad carried throughout his life. Let the WORLD know that Eva Bender was here! May she rest in peace. Lord Knows that she EARNED it!

I am sorry to hear of your loss. She did make her "Mark" on the world. It was your dad. I saw that in your post and she did an outstanding job by the way you describe her and your dad. It is not an easy thing to loose someone you care for. Especially someone who is as special as she was. Take care and we are here for you if you need us.

Jerry,
It is surely all those small but important marks that make up all that is worthwhile in the big picture. Your thoughts do her proud.

"We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give." Sir Winston Churchill
From what you've said, your Aunt 'made a life' and your Father is the proof. Few of us make a mark on the world...the lucky ones make a mark on their family and friends. Condolences on your loss. Cynthia

Britney, Paris, & others of their ilk are forever making their "marks" (i.e. smudges) that many will remember for at least 5 minutes after their demise.
Your aunt's memory, & it's positive effects upon your family will last an eternity. My condolences, Jerry. Ron.

Hey Jerry, I'm really sorry to hear this. I know it is natural enough when you reach a good age eventually some part of the system gives up.
It's still hard to see someone you obviously love very much pass on just the same. She sounds a wonderful person. Thinking of you. Joe

I told a family member that it was kind of hard to be sad for her. Just short of 100 years. She was ready to go! Her sons and husband and all of her siblings were already there waiting! She just 'joined the family circle in the sky'.

Jerry,
In these circumstances I have heard a sympathetic comment, "Well I guess they reached their use by date." Some how this idea has a kindly, meaningful ring to it.
