JDM corners internals

Well, I am sitting on a brand new set of corners, can't WAIT to install them in a few weeks when I go home. But I have a question...

There is an internal orange 'pod' over the bulb. Is it orange on the USDM ones? If not, is there a way to remove this orange thing? definately do not want to tinker with these things and break them....I got a set of silverstar 3157s to throw in there. They retain an orange light, but coat it w/ the silver star lookin' flashy flashy bling bling +5 HP coating stuff. I think it would look better then the orange pod thing in there...eh, anyone know?

I thought I saw some one at the tristate meet last year with a blue looking internal to the corners...not what I am looking for, but same process.

A long time ago I remember somebody removed that orange bulb you mention.

If memory serves, he heated it until the bulb got soft, then he pulled it away from its position by using a long-nosed pliers.

It sounds a difficult thing to do, but I know he pulled it off [pun not intended!] because he showed pics of it.

Can't remember who it was, must be 4 years ago or more.

Joe

Dave is right.

It was Michael. He heated the inside with a small blow torch. It seems to have been a success.

I have to agree I didn't like the orange bulb either. If you get a small soldering torch and heat the bulb from the inside it will become soft. When the bulb is evenly mushy jab it with a needle nose pliers and twist while pulling it out. It's pretty hard to screw anything up, if it cools too fast you can start over. Joe, are you still keeping an eye out for some headlights for me?

Rocking horse droppings. Hen's teeth. What can I say?

I sure am Michael. However, right now I need one for myself, and they do not come up too often.

If a pair comes up, I'll PM you.

Joe

heh

I swear. I should sell this stupid car....

To hard to F up eh?

I managed

The black outside casing melted slightly in that area as I pulled the orange pod out. Kind of F'ing up the actual bulb plug from plugging in. I'm pissed. Haven't desided what to do about it yet.

I cleared out my JDM corners, put them in the oven at 230 degrees C for 5 minutes and separated the backing, had to do it in several goes, repleacing the corner in the over for 2 mins each time, looks great now.....BUT i did crack one in doing this you have to be EXTREMLY gentle!, once apart the orange peice can be removed by undoing a tiny screw!

Alternativly I have a friend who smashed out the orage part with a screwdriver, not my type of method but hey!

Cheers,
Jake

Which orange piece Jake?

Do you mean the sort of orange bulb that is on the Japanese ones? Or do you mean the flat orange square panel on the side of the American ones?

Joe

I saw that thing when I got mine. I left it in there, popped the stock orange bulb in, and reattached the housing without thinking twice about it.. seemed too easy to f up.
