Only one course walk?? I would always do at least 3 walks around the course. You should be able to visualise the entire course in your head.

The 2nd morning group had over 80 car's and wasnt done running until after 2pm. They rushed the afternoon group. I did the novice walk through and they closed the course and manned the stations. I usually try to do 3 walks as well. My group didnt even start our runs until after 5pm. Thats way the sun became an issue.

When you run through the Kuhmo V700 tires, I highly recommmend the Kuhmo V710. They are the best autox tire I have ever seen (maybe the Hoosier A6 is as good but I haven't driven a car with those yet). They cannot be run in the rain and they will wear at 3x the speed of the V700. But they will get you 1-2s on a 60s course over the v700. Best news is that they come in 225/50/16.

The V710's are also popular here and can be run in the rain. I have seen them perform in person in the rain. Just watch out for puddles.

down side of the 710s is that you probably won't get more than one season's use out of them, they'll need to be agressively sprayed down during the warm months, and they're much more expensive than the 700s. This said, they will gain you the 1-2 seconds noted if you pay close attention to their temperature

Agreed. The V710's are just that great of a tire but their performance tapers off sharply after 50-60 runs and you'll be lucky to get 80 runs out of a set.

One thing to note, is that Kumho makes two different V700 tires. The Victoracer V700 and the Ecsta V700. From what I've been told and seen from people who've switched between the two, the Ecsta V700's have an edge over the Victoracers (Ecsta V700's are only available for 17" & 18" wheels).

Btw, I came across this banner pic of Lee's BMW on the autocrossers, inc website:

He's not only cornering on three wheels, but the inside wheel that's lifted is actually passing over the base of the cone!!!

Talk about running the tightest line possible!

Chike

P.S. I did an AI event at Ripken on Sunday and won DS by over 1.3 seconds (5 competitors total) - my best was a 48.0 which wasn't that great IMHO as I coned away a run that would have had me in the low 46's. Got a pint glass as my trophy, which I 'christened' last night with some Sam Adams!

Handling observations.

Looking at the way this car is handling, I would say that, with the small amount of body roll the car has, and that inside wheel lifted that much, it would seem that the front roll bar is far too stiff, lifting the wheel off the ground.

Harvey.

I agree Harv, but Lee Piccione has that car set-up the way he likes. Can't argue with the guy as he finished 5th at natl's this year in BSP (a very competitive class).
