AC compressor replacement Q

I believe the bearing is starting to go in my compressor, so it will probably be replaced in the near future. Can it be replaced without draining the system and requiring a recharge?

I don't think so. The only way you can do it is empty the system and recharge it when the new compressor is on. It would help to have a recovery system because then you could put the old stuff back in at least instead of buying new. Good luck.

In HVAC we are able to pump down the refrigerant to one side of the system while replacing parts. I don't know if it's possible with auto A/C.
