Wow,

Of the various auto-enthusiast websites I frequent for information, without a doubt, SVX World Network is THE BEST source of technical info with a real-world slant. Thanks to everyone for all your input.

I just picked up my car from my mechanic this evening. I had mentioned to him the suggestion about replacing my stock (original) rotors with ones from Race Concepts. After inspecting my rotors, we discoverd both fronts were in fact warped. However, Steve pointed out that they could easily be machined and certainly did not need to be replaced, at least not this time around. He turned them, cleaned things out a bit, inspected the rest of the brake system, checked the pads for wear, checked for sticking calipers (couldn't find any evidence of sticking) re-installed the rotors and we took it for a test drive. No shimmy, no shake, smooth as an SVX should be under moderate braking (where the problem was most noticable) so, hopefully, problem solved.

The only thing is, what caused the warping to begin with? I don't take the car to the track and I'm pretty easy on it 95% of the time on the street. Oh well, I'll see how things go. Something tells me, though, I'm probably going to be going with Race Concepts at some point in the future. We'll see.

Oh yeah, I checked, none of this work is covered under warranty!!!

What causes warped rotors?

Typically due to overtorqued wheels...

Cheers!
